Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. in Desford, Leicestershire, is seeking a Test Booth Technician to join the production team and assemble parts for Building Construction Product machines, following defined work orders and lean manufacturing practices.

You will operate to takt times and production sequences while maintaining quality and safety standards. The role emphasizes hands-on assembly, reading procedures, teamwork, effective communication, and a flexible multi-shift approach.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrable elevated level of assembly or mechanical aptitude with accuracy.
  • The ability to read, comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions/procedures.
  • The ability to work closely with others is imperative, requiring team participation to achieve objectives.
  • Effective communication skills to liaise with various levels of the organisation.
  • Fully flexible approach to the job role & responsibilities (willing to work overtime).
  • The ability to use hand/power tools and lifting equipment.
  • Prepared to undertake required training/learning.
  • Must be willing to work a multi-shift pattern.

Responsibilities

  • Follow documented standard work procedures to perform safe and defect-free assembly of parts and components.
  • Follow Caterpillar Production System principles of continuous improvement and standard work.
  • Operate built products where required.
  • Train/coach new Assembly Technicians/Apprentices to standard work instructions.
  • Keep the work area clean, tidy, and safe per 5S and TPM.
  • Participate in rapid improvement workshops (RIW's).
  • Adhere to health & safety policy and Caterpillar Values.
  • Undertake training and further learning as required.

As a Test Booth Technician, you will operate as part of the production team responsible for the assembly of parts or components to produce Building Construction Product (BCP) machines, according to specified work orders. You will utilise lean manufacturing tools and techniques whilst operating to defined “takt times” and production sequences.

What you will do
  • Follow documented standard work procedures/instructions to perform safe and defect free assembly of parts and components, using various hand, power tools and lifting equipment provided in the work area.
  • Follow and utilise Caterpillar Production System principles of continuous improvement reporting, waste elimination and standard work.
  • Operate BCP built products where required.
  • Train/coach new Assembly Technicians/Apprentices to standard work instructions.
  • Keep the work area clean, tidy, and safe in line with 5S and total preventative maintenance (TPM).
  • Participate in rapid improvement workshops (RIW's) contributing process expertise.
  • Adhere to the Organisation's health & safety policy and safe working practices.

  • Undertake training and further learning as required.

Required qualifications

  • Previous experience of working within a manufacturing assembly environment.
  • Previous experience of working on hydraulic and electrical function checks.
  • Good hydraulic, electrical, diagnostic/problem solving skills.
  • Relevant NVQ level 2/equivalent or higher.

What You Will Get

Job Title: Test Booth Technician

Salary: £28,969 rising to £30,450 when role triggers are met

Contract: Permanent
