What are we looking for

The Test and Development Technician will work as part of a dedicated and multi-disciplined team. This is a practical role and you will be expected to spend your time in the laboratory, working within a team to build and test electrolysers. Work will be done independently or in a small team under the supervision of a member of the

Technology department therefore the successful candidate will be able to work without supervision but be able to seek support and advice when necessary. Training will be given.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain electrolyser test stations and short stack tests, keeping accurate and detailed records of lab work
  • Use and work with logic flow diagrams, P & ID and any other information required
  • Develop a good understanding of all test procedures and feedback any adjustments required with a particular focus on safety critical elements
  • Record and analyse data, communicate issues and results in a timely manner
  • Perform troubleshooting activities, identifying faults and correcting them as required
  • Work alongside scientists to implement the test schedule, prioritising test equipment between various projects, working closely with the R&D leads to support the smooth running of the testing laboratories
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in the department, improving and upgrading test facilities to meet the changing needs of the business
  • Develop and implement automated test programmes in collaboration with the R&D scientists
  • Ensure all required Health and Safety documentation, procedures and risk assessments are maintained and followed
  • Maintain a high standard of safety and housekeeping in the laboratory
  • Prioritise workloads dependent on project and business needs
  • Undertake training and development to enable you to perform your duties
  • Ensure the laboratory is well-stocked and resourced with an emphasis on quality, availability and performance of equipment
  • Assist with the management, maintenance and calibration of instruments and equipment in the test lab, liaising with service engineers and contacting technical support when needed

About You

Knowledge and Experience

  • Computer literate with good use of computer software programmes, including Microsoft office
  • Knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety issues
  • Experience in the use of risk assessments and method statements to support safe working

Advantageous

  • Experience of working in a laboratory or practical engineering environment
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation such P&IDs, electrical single line diagrams, PLC logic flow diagrams and process equipment datasheets in order to support fault diagnosis.
  • Experience working with PLC control systems, hydraulic, pneumatic, and high-pressure gas systems

  • A methodical approach to problem solving with good data analysis and report writing skills

  • Excellent hands-on task completion, able to see a task through from start to finish
  • Effective communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Able to work independently or as part of a team
  • Able to plan and progress work activities to meet deadlines and achieve goals
