Job summary

CMS2 is seeking a hands-on Test and Commissioning Engineer to bring our air purification systems to life. You will perform testing, commissioning, and performance validation, both on-site in Portsmouth and at customer locations as required.

The role requires strong electrical/mechanical skills, adherence to safety and quality procedures, and the ability to work with engineering staff to develop and improve equipment. Travel to MoD and customer sites may be necessary.

Qualifications

  • Essential: engineering NVQ/HNC or equivalent
  • Essential: apprenticeship in engineering field
  • Essential: previous test & commissioning experience in a regulated industry
  • Essential: strong health and safety commitment (IOSH Working Safely)
  • Essential: ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specs, procedures
  • Essential: good hands-on electrical and mechanical skills
  • Essential: able to work as part of a team and handle pressure
  • Desirable: HND/degree in engineering
  • Desirable: defence or shipbuilding/naval industry experience
  • Desirable: familiarity with NPI/NPD and safety standards

Responsibilities

  • Set up, configure, test, commission and maintain complex process equipment
  • Perform hydrostatic and pneumatic pressure tests
  • Electrical testing and functional validation of equipment
  • Conduct pre-commissioning checks and on-site demonstrations
  • Investigate faults and work with engineers to resolve issues
  • Record test results and provide feedback to design/maintenance teams
  • Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, Environment and Quality requirements
  • Travel to MoD sites and customer sites as needed

Test and Commissioning Engineer

Description

Are you a hands-on engineer who enjoys seeing technology come to life?


As a Test & Commissioning Engineer, you'll play a key role in bringing CMS2's innovative air purification systems to life, carrying out testing and commissioning activities to ensure equipment performs to the highest standards and complies with company procedures, customer requirements, and relevant regulations.


Key Responsibilities will include


  • Set-up, configure, test, commission and maintain complex process equipment

  • Low- and high-pressure testing

  • Electrical testing

  • Perform pre-commissioning checks, functional testing, and performance validation of equipment in Portsmouth and on site if required.

  • Able to use basic test equipment such as, Multimeter, Loop calibrators , oscilloscope.

  • Perform hydrostatic and pneumatic pressure tests on mechanical components, piping systems, and plant assemblies in accordance with engineering specifications and safety regulations.

  • Carry out, flash testing, IR testing, earth bonding, point to point checks

  • Carrying out activities in line with the company's test procedures.

  • Investigating mechanical and electronic problems, diagnosing/repairing faults.

  • Work with engineering and technical staff to develop new and existing equipment.

  • Ensure documentation and test results are recorded as required.

  • Feedback design and maintenance issues to appropriate personnel.

  • Run system demonstrations with customers.

  • To control and maintain professional standards within the test areas.

  • To record and analyse data being captured within the test environment.

  • Ensure Health, Safety, Environment and Quality requirements are adhered to at all times

  • To maintain professional standards within the shop floor / test bay areas.


General activities:



  • Carry out any other ad-hoc duties as required to support the needs of the business.

  • Provide a professional backup service for colleagues during peak times or during absence.

  • Follow company procedures, standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Maintain continuous professional development to ensure knowledge is up to date.

  • Act as an ambassador for the company in all interactions with customers and the public


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential:



  • NVQ/HNC qualification in engineering

  • Apprenticeship in relevant engineering field

  • Previous test & commissioning experience in a highly regulated industry (process engineering)

  • Strong commitment to health and safety, environment and quality

  • IOSH Working Safely

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as process engineering drawings, specifications and procedures

  • Good hands on electrical / mechanical skills

  • Pragmatic approach to tasks

  • Must be able to work efficiently as part of a team and to work under pressure in a challenging environment

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Flexibility, enthusiasm, self-motivated and able to work well under own initiative


Desirable:



  • HND/Degree qualified in engineering

  • Previous experience within a manufacturing and defence environment

  • Shipbuilding / Ship Repair background within the MOD / Naval Industry

  • Familiar with NPI / NPD

  • Experience of air purification equipment on-board submarines highly desirable

  • Able to forge strong working relationships both internally and externally

  • IOSH Managing Safely

  • 5S / LEAN continuous improvement


Some travel to MoD sites in the UK and customer sites overseas may occasionally be required.


Other requirements:



  • Candidates must have an existing right to live and work in the UK

  • Candidates must have passed UK security clearance to Security Check level or be able to obtain this level. To gain SC clearance you will normally have had to have been a resident in the UK for a minimum of 5 years.

  • Candidates must be able to obtain a basic security check which will normally require you to have been resident in the UK for at least 3 years.
