Pay and hours

Shift Leader rate of pay starts from £14.76 per hour; increases to £15.97 for stores inside the M25. Additional payments may apply depending on location. It is Tesco policy to offer new colleagues a minimum of 16 guaranteed hours per week, with options to work as few as 12 hours if desired.

Role overview

As a Shift Leader you will support store operations, help customers, and oversee the store on shift to keep things running smoothly. You will face a variety of challenges as you oversee the shop floor and strive to improve service for customers, colleagues, and communities daily.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the store team to deliver a smooth shopping experience
  • Support colleagues to deliver daily priorities and take regular breaks
  • Open and close the store and manage duty cover with safety in mind
  • Act as the point of contact for colleagues in the absence of a manager
  • Maintain a clean, tidy, and well-presented store
  • Support managers with seasonal, community and charity events
  • Foster an inclusive, great team atmosphere
  • Provide excellent customer service and listen to customers
  • Keep the team informed of communications and updates
  • Monitor store performance and support improvements to operations
  • Lead by example and set high standards
  • Contribute to effective store improvements and remove obstacles to service
  • Follow health and safety routines and ensure colleagues do the same
  • Recognise and celebrate colleagues who provide great service
