The Excel Academy in Stoke-on-Trent is seeking a Catering Manager to lead the school kitchen and oversee all food preparation, service quality and cost controls. You will mentor staff, develop menus and drive health & safety adherence in a high-volume setting.

Key responsibilities include supervising the kitchen team, managing inventories and budgets, and conducting audits to maintain top standards for students and staff. A Level 2 Food Safety certificate is required.

Qualifications

• Experience cooking for 100–1300 students.
• Experience following recipes in a similar setting.
• Previous staff supervision or line management experience.
• Experience with fresh produce and ingredients.
• Knowledge of health and safety procedures.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Professional, lead by example and positive attitude.
• Basic food handling certification: Level 2 Food Safety.
• At least 1 year hands-on cooking; training on Food Hygiene and Health & Safety provided.

Responsabilités

• Manage replenishment of food and end-of-service dismantling.
• Develop, mentor, train and inspire the kitchen team.
• Control catering operation including labour, food and stock costs.
• Manage and optimise all controllable costs.
• Ensure uniform standards of food and service for staff, visitors and students.
• Manage creation and development of menus.
• Conduct routine audits to ensure standards are followed.
