Job Description

I am working with one of my top clients who requires a Tender Design Manager to assist with their Pumped Storage Hydro Scheme. This role is based in Swindon, offering a competitive rate (Outside IR35), and initially spans 3 months. The position requires a minimum of 3 days in the office per week, with the option to work from home for the remaining days.

Purpose of the role:
  1. Manage design consultant activities and deliverables to ensure completion in line with the project schedule.
  2. Serve as the technical lead on the project unless an Engineering Manager is present.
  3. Track and report both input and output design deliverables to the Project Manager as required.
Role accountabilities include but are not limited to:
  • Review contract requirements and ensure compliance.
  • Raise requests for additional information internally and externally.
  • Assist in preparing design programmes.
  • Communicate with the Client design representative throughout the contract.
  • Produce monthly reports on design progress.
  • Manage and update the design deliverable schedule.
  • Review all design outputs for quality and standards, resolving issues when necessary.
  • Lead and chair design reviews and interface meetings with external parties.
  • Ensure designs comply with contract requirements and tender intentions.
  • Monitor and report on design progress, explaining necessary actions.
  • Engage with external suppliers/subcontractors.
  • Ensure correct documentation and control of drawings and design communications.
  • Establish and oversee technical query procedures.
  • Manage changes and issue instructions to designers following project protocols.
  • Implement change order management and approve designer quality systems.
Required project knowledge:
  • Extensive understanding of construction methods and outputs, with coaching ability.
  • At least 12 months experience in design within a consultancy or temporary works department.
  • Significant construction and design experience.
  • Ability to deputise for the Project Manager if needed.
  • Understanding of Principal Designer duties including ERIC.
