Tender Design Manager

The Opportunity

Due to increased expansion, our client, a leading civils contractor, is looking to bring in an experienced design manager to help deliver design reviews and tender processes for a range of high value projects in a variety of civil engineering fields.

Contract: This role has been deemed outside IR35 but is dependent on a full status determination assessment. Inside IR35 is also an option.
Duration: 3 months
Location: Swindon (3 days)
Rate: £450 - £550 per day (Negotiable)

Your Duties and Responsibilities

1. Manage the process, resolution, and communication of all design queries as part of the project.
2. Review contract requirements and ensure compliance with requirements.
3. Raise requests for further information internally and externally from the whole project team.
4. Collaborate in the preparation of design programmes.
5. Manage communication with the Client design representative throughout the contract period.
6. Produce monthly reports on design progress and any other design-specific elements.
7. Manage and update the design deliverable schedule.
8. Review all design deliverables and ensure that they are completed to the expected standard. Challenge and resolve when not.
9. Manage and chair design reviews with the project team.
10. Manage and chair all design interface meetings with external parties.
11. Review designs for compliance with contract requirements and tender intentions.
12. Ensure compliance with design approval processes required by the contract.
13. Routinely monitor and report on the progress of the design and explain any necessary actions.
14. Collaborate with the engagement of external suppliers/subcontractors.
15. Ensure the document register is completed by designers correctly and issued to HTUK periodically.
16. Manage provision of drawings to the project team - document control.
17. Establish a technical query procedure.
18. Review all design communications and collaboratively resolve queries.
19. Agree changes with the project team in accordance with project authority protocol.
20. Issue instructions to Designer in accordance with project authority protocol.
21. Implement change order management.
22. Approve designer's quality management system.
23. Lead Design Reviews with approval and acceptance bodies (TAA, NR, LUL, etc.).

Qualifications & Experience

1. Wide-ranging understanding and working knowledge of construction methods and outputs and can coach others.
2. Must have spent 12 months completing designs as part of a consultancy or temporary works design department.
3. Will have both substantial construction and design experience.
4. Ability to deputise for the Project Manager if required.
5. Understands the Principal Designer Duties including ERIC.

The Setting for the Role

Risks and Hazards are in line with working in an office. These can include display screen equipment, stress, manual handling, slips, trips and falls, fire and emergency, work equipment, electrical safety, and temperature. A full induction will be provided and all safety requirements must be adhered to when entering the building.
