Job summary

Kier is seeking a Temporary Works Design Engineer to join our civil, structural and geotechnical team across the UK. The role offers agile working with up to 1–2 days home, and a starting salary of £40k per year.

You will contribute to complex projects, lead smaller assignments, and apply first principles to ensure safety, buildability and innovative solutions across Kier's extensive project portfolio.

Qualifications

• Experience in temporary works design or management.
• Knowledge of design standards and safety requirements.
• Chartered or working towards Chartered status is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Produce, check and review design outputs (calculations, models, reports) in line with QA and CDM.
• Act as Project Lead for simpler projects, managing scope, programme and budget.

Temporary Works Design Engineer

We're looking for civil, structural and/orgeotechnical engineers to join our team in various locations around the UK.

Locations: Birmingham / Bristol / Cambridge / Cardiff / Glasgow / Leeds / Liverpool / London / Manchester / Newcastle / Norwich / Plymouth – agile working, with up to 1-2 days per week from home if desired

Hours: 40 hours per week – flexibility on hours available if desired

Salary: Starting from £40k per annum

Sector: Working across all sectors of the built environment

Are you…

• Practically-minded, with a strong grounding in civil, structural and/or geotechnical engineering principles and knowledge of applicable design standards?
• Working towards Chartered Engineer or Incorporated Engineer status (CEng or IEng) or of equivalent experience?

What will you be responsible for?

Contributing to the delivery of a broad range of complex construction engineering services, including some or all of: temporary works design and checking, reviewing permanent designs for compliance and buildability, supporting tenders and preconstruction planning, and providing technical support to overcome construction-stage and post-construction issues and defects.

Main responsibilities

• Producing, checking and reviewing design outputs such as calculations, sketches, drawings, 3D models, reports and risk assessments, ensuring compliance with CDM, SHE procedures and QA processes
• Acting as Project Lead for simpler projects, managing technical scope, programme, budget and relationships with preconstruction and construction teams, from bid through to delivery
• Developing yourself, contributing to the continuous improvement of processes and systems, enabling the business to adapt to current and future challenges.
