Job summary

Randstad CPE is seeking a Temporary Works Design Engineer to deliver buildable, safe temporary works designs for major projects in the UK. Location: Derby or Canary Wharf; contract starts ASAP with an end date of 21/09/2027; rate: £480 per day Umbrella.

The role includes reviewing briefs, coordinating CAD work, performing calculations, and ensuring designs meet time and budget constraints. Degree in engineering and strong numerical and CAD skills are essential.

• Strong numerical capability with the ability to assimilate data.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.
• Excellent communication, report writing and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality, buildable, and safe temporary works designs for Major Projects.
• Review design briefs and manage workload for CAD Engineers and Technicians.
• Undertake both repetitive and complex structural and geotechnical calculations.
• Verify and deliver designs to time and budget constraints.
• Contribute to methodology workshops, buildability sessions, and VE workshops to identify cost-effective solutions.

Role: Temporary Works Design Engineer

Location: Derby or Canary Wharf

Contract: Start ASAP, with an end date of 21/09/2027

Rate: £480 per day Umbrella

IR35 Status: Inside IR35

Hours: 37.5 hours per week (7.5 hours per day)

In this role will be to deliver high-quality, buildable, and safe temporary works designs for Major Projects and other business units. Acting as a technical expert, your key accountabilities will include:

• Reviewing temporary works design briefs and managing the allocation of work, including managing the workload for CAD Engineers, Technicians, or Operators.
• Undertaking both repetitive and complex structural engineering and geotechnical calculations.
• Verifying and delivering temporary works designs to time and budget constraints.
• Providing expert technical support and contributing to methodology workshops, buildability sessions, and VE workshops to identify innovative, cost-effective solutions.
• Ensuring design risks are fully considered, preparing Design Risk Assessments, and exercising designers' obligations under the CDM Regulations Assisting with design assurance through audits

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

• A degree in a relevant engineering discipline, backed by extensive experience and thorough knowledge of engineering principles.
• Strong numerical capability with the ability to assimilate data, alongside proficiency in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD
• Excellent communication, report writing, interpersonal, and influencing skills to work effectively with all levels of personnel.
