My client a world leading geotechnical contractor, who specialises in all aspects of modern Geotechnics and Foundation Engineering is seeking an experienced TW Engineer

Type of works involve bored and displacement piling, diaphragm walls, grouting, mini piling, anchors, ground improvements and environmental engineering working on multi million pound infrastructure projects

Responsible for assisting the Temporary Works Lead in overseeing the management of all temporary works associated to a sizable package of works

This particular role will be based in the midlands working on a very prestigious long term multi million pound project.

Key Tasks

  • Identify and assess the scope of temporary works for each site.
  • Provide support, advice, or management of temporary works to the site teams.
  • Ensure preparation of design brief following design and construction programme.
  • Review the design output and ensure it addresses the design brief.
  • Ensure site team has been made aware of any residual design risks temporary works elements and there are adequate and suitable control measures in place to mitigate against those risks.
  • Ensure site team has been issued with full approved design drawings and specifications, design change details and any other information necessary for the construction of the design works.
  • Review RAMS and ITP. Ensure that they are suitable for safely controlling the work and that the suitable Hold Point is incorporated in the sequence to verify the construction.
  • Ensure that TWS carries out their role and ensure that the TWS carry out their inspections of the works.
  • Inspect every significant item of temporary works requiring permit to load at each Hold Point and issue the Permit when satisfied.
  • Possibly undertake temporary works designs of guide walls, reaction piles for test piles, Dwall trench stability, temporary works for Dwall and pile cages (lifting points, bands, trapping beams…) including production of design deliverables for each design package (e.g., design report, design certificate, design risk assessments, management of CAD for design drawings).

Technical and Personal Skills

  • Suitable previous job experience (3 years), including sufficient engineering knowledge and understanding of similar temporary works and the risks which such works will entail.
  • Experience in Soil Mechanics / Geotechnical Engineering / Piling/ Diaphragm Walls required.
  • Knowledge of Eurocodes EC7 and EC2 and relevant British Standards is required.
  • Knowledge of BS 5975 : 2019 is an advantage.
  • Ability to demonstrate technical and practical skills such as being able to read, understand and implement drawings, sketches and specifications.
  • Ability to identify where temporary works are likely to be required on site.
  • Ability to independently recognise their knowledge and skill limitations and the limitations of those they will be working with.
  • Ability and independence to make engineering decisions that will not be compromised by commercial, programme or other pressures.
  • Capable and having the knowledge and experience to assess the competence of TW Supervisors.
  • Having the authority, strength of character and ability to stop the work.
  • Knowledge and experience to fully understand the assumed methods of construction and loading constraints.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Must possess a valid CSCS card.
  • Must hold a valid CITB TWS qualification.
