Job description

The Role

Due to our continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Site Manager to join Fortem, based in Birmingham with travel across the city. The Site Manager will work full-time, leading site teams and subcontractors on projects, managing and planning subcontract labor, and supporting a large capital works program focused on property enhancements, particularly Kitchen and Bathroom (K&B) maintenance and refurbishment. Experience with electrical aspects of K&B replacement programs, such as EICR, would be advantageous.

The Customer

You will be part of one of Fortem's largest Social Housing contracts with Birmingham City Council. This expanding 50m Repairs & Maintenance, Capital Works, and Retrofit contract is the largest social housing contract in Europe, managing over 22,500 properties including low, medium, and high-rise blocks. It is a fast-paced, focused, and well-established contract, re-awarded three times, demonstrating our commitment and capability.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead, assess, and be responsible for all electrical works within the K&B maintenance and refurbishment programs.
  • Ensure strict adherence to Health & Safety policies, working closely with H&S Managers and Advisors.
  • Maintain and produce up-to-date health and safety records upon request.
  • Ensure compliance with Environmental and Waste Management policies.
  • Induct all staff, subcontractors, and visitors to the site appropriately.
  • Comply with the Company’s Customer Satisfaction policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all personnel work within specified standards and adhere to company policies.
  • Motivate, support, and manage site staff, providing training, coaching, and performance reviews.
  • Maintain site presentation standards at all times.
  • Organize regular site meetings, pre-plan work, and ensure efficient resource usage.

What You Will Need

Essential Criteria:

  • Minimum NVQ4 or HNC qualification
  • SMSTS certification
  • Scaffold inspection certification
  • Role-appropriate CSCS card
  • First Aid at Work certification
  • Asbestos awareness (duty to manage is desirable)
  • Strong understanding of building refurbishment works
  • Experience in high-volume K&B maintenance and refurbishment programs
  • Valid driver’s license

Confident in engaging and managing all levels of supply chain members, reviewing and challenging sub-contract RAMS, with experience working on electrical installation reports (EICR) and delivering refurbishment projects for affordable housing clients. Desirable skills include CIOB membership, knowledge of ASTA, working with JCT/NEC contracts, quality assurance, and temporary works knowledge.
