Job summary

Zego is hiring a Data Scientist to shape driving intelligence for real-time insurance products. You’ll develop features from telematics, build scalable pipelines in Python/SQL, and push models into production to deliver meaningful insights.

You’ll collaborate with engineers, researchers and product managers, handling GPS and sensor data to drive safer roads and fairer insurance. Hybrid work in London/UK offices is offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's/Master's in a relevant field with hands-on data science or data engineering experience.
• Experience writing production-grade code beyond notebooks.

About the team

We don’t build pricing models, we build the driving intelligence that feeds them. Our mission is to drive safer roads and fairer insurance through data.

The Telematics team transforms raw phone sensor data into meaningful insights about how people drive. Using advanced signal processing and machine learning, we process high-frequency data to extract behavioural signals that power our understanding of driving quality, context, and risk.

About the Role

As a Data Scientist, you’ll contribute to the future of behaviour-based insurance. You’ll contribute to the development of features and algorithms that detect driving patterns from sensors, test new hypotheses, and help bring impactful insights into production.

You’ll work closely at the intersection of data science and engineering, generating scalable, real-world insights from GPS, accelerometer, and other spatial data.

What you will be doing

• Build and refine behavioural features and factors from telematics data.

• Develop and maintain end-to-end pipelines in Python and SQL, ranging from simple heuristics to complex machine learning models.

• Build robust solutions that scale, whether rule-based or ML-driven.

• Collaborate with Software Engineers,Data Scientists, and Product Managers to implement features and evaluate their impact.

• Run experiments, test new ideas, and assist in automating insight generation.

• Translate complex sensor data into clear insights that can shape our roadmap and product.

What you’ll need to be successful

• MSc or BSc in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Statistics), or equivalent practical experience.

• Hands-on experience developing data science or data engineering solutions. You’re comfortable writing production-grade code, not just notebooks.

• Solid skills in Python and SQL, including standard libraries (Polars, Scipy, NumPy, Scikit-Learn).

• Experience building or maintaining data pipelines and tools that are reliable and maintainable.

• Clear communication skills: able to break down problems into testable hypotheses and collaborate effectively within multi-disciplinary teams.

• A growth mindset: curious, eager to learn from senior peers, and open to feedback.

Nice to Have

• Exposure to noisy, high-frequency, or time-series sensor data (e.g., GPS, accelerometer).

• Familiarity with digital signal processing or sensor physics principles.

• Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS) and tools like Docker or basic pipeline orchestration.

• Background or interest in insurance, mobile telemetry, or behavioural modeling.

• Experience applying Deep Learning models to time-series data.
