The role of a Telco Field Engineer at Canonical

The telco industry is moving towards software-defined services, driven by open source software, cloud computing, and VNF / CNF approaches. Canonical Ubuntu is a key platform for telco innovation, and we are expanding our team of specialists to accelerate this change.

Canonical enables operators and communication service providers to adopt this new landscape, focusing on platforms such as Ubuntu, OpenStack, and Kubernetes, along with automation tools for scalable operations.

As a part of the Canonical Field Engineering team, you will lead customers in designing and delivering solutions involving OpenStack, Kubernetes, and software-defined networking. Your enthusiasm for open-source technologies will help customers understand and operate advanced infrastructure to meet 5G and future demands. This role involves both designing and implementing solutions.

What your day will look like

  • Matching customer requirements with capabilities in the VNF/CNF/NFVi/NFVO/VNFM/VIM/MEC space
  • Providing technical pre-sales consulting to Service Provider teams
  • Designing and implementing telco-grade open source multi-tenant private clouds and micro clouds
  • Deploying cloud solutions such as OpenStack, Kubernetes, MAAS, and Ceph
  • Investigating, reporting, and fixing software defects during customer deployments
  • Demonstrating Infrastructure as Code (IaC) techniques relevant to telco environments
  • Learning model-driven operations with Juju charms for Kafka, Hadoop, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, NGINX, and more
  • Assisting customers in adopting advanced Bare Metal, Public, Private, and Hybrid Cloud solutions
  • Gathering insights from customer engagements to improve products
  • Shaping our roadmap to grow in the telco market

What we are looking for in you
