Main duties of the job

This Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) post with the TYA team is an exciting opportunity to work with teenagers and young adults with cancer across the Wessex region. Based at University Hospitals Southampton (UHS) the successful candidate will work with the dynamic TYA MDT and other teams across UHS and the region to provide gold standard ,age appropriate care to our patients and their families.The TYA service advocates for young people being treated for cancer and supports them throughout their treatment journey from diagnosis onwards. The team provides expert knowledge and support to patients, families and other teams involved in the care of the young person. The team ensure that young people's emotional, financial, practical, educational and social needs are recognized and supported by the appropriate professionals. This is a small, friendly and inclusive team. We encourage clinical supervision and will support with opportunities for ongoing development and leadership experience

Job responsibilities

We are looking for a current senior band 6 nurse or a CNS, with relevant cancer, TYA or clinical experience to join our friendly team. It is essential that you have either experience with, or a wish to work with and learn about the specialty of TYA cancer. You will need to be able to demonstrate your experience or knowledge of the specific needs of TYAs and some of the challenges that this can present. You must be able to work independently and also as part of a team. You will be required to work set days to fit in with the existing team and our usual shifts are 0800-1800 Monday to Friday. Qualifications, knowledge and experience
  • Registered nurse on relevant part of the NMC register
  • Level 7 Post Grad Cert (Min 60 Credits), Master's Degree within relevant speciality or equivalent knowledge to be assessed through evidence of relevant speciality training, experience or portfolio
  • Specialist training / Qualification in area of practice
  • Provide evidence of leading learning in practice
  • Evidence of experience and completion of all band 6 competencies within relevant speciality
  • Specialist clinical skills and experience within specialist area
  • Evidence of change Management, leadership and innovation
  • Clinical experience at Band 6 or equivalent within relevant speciality
  • Provide evidence of supporting colleagues to promote learning in practice providing an excellent learning environment for all
  • Provide evidence of supporting / managing and supervision of a range of learnings in practice
  • Counselling / advanced communication skills qualification / training
  • Act in the role of Practice Assessor or supporting the progression of learners / supporting challenges as needed
