Job description

Join Barclays as a Technical Product Owner and take ownership of complex, enterprise-scale data and technology products, setting direction and turning strategic priorities into measurable delivery outcomes.

You will operate as an individual-contributor, connecting senior business stakeholders with technical teams and taking accountability for product direction, roadmap priorities and delivery across interconnected data platforms and analytics capabilities. You will lead backlog decisions, shape high-quality outcomes and manage significant dependencies, risks and governance in a complex, regulated environment. This role suits a hands-on Product Owner who can challenge constructively, influence at senior level and create clarity across competing enterprise priorities.

To be successful as a Technical Product Owner, you should have experience with:

  • Substantial hands-on experience as a Product Owner or Technical Product Owner, owning complex technology products and backlogs from discovery through to delivery.
  • Proven accountability for setting product direction, influencing roadmaps and delivering measurable business outcomes across enterprise-scale initiatives.
  • Advanced Jira capability, including backlog structuring and refinement, user stories, acceptance criteria and sprint prioritisation.
  • Proven ability to translate complex business and data needs into clear outcomes, features and delivery-ready backlog items.
  • Strong experience delivering data platforms, data products or analytics capabilities and engaging credibly with technical specialists.
  • Experience leading delivery across multiple teams, platforms or business domains while managing significant dependencies, risks and governance requirements.
  • Strong experience partnering with engineers, architects, analysts and business stakeholders in Agile delivery teams.
  • Confident senior stakeholder management, with the ability to challenge constructively, resolve ambiguity and make prioritisation decisions that balance value, risk, dependencies and capacity.
Some Other Highly Valued Skills May Include
  • Experience delivering enterprise data platform, data product or analytics capabilities in a large-scale organisation.
  • Experience operating within formal product, risk, control and technology governance frameworks.
  • Experience of product discovery, outcome definition, benefits tracking or data-informed product decision-making.
  • Relevant Product Owner, Agile or Scrum certification.

You may be assessed on the critical skills relevant for success in the role, including risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, digital and technology, as well as role-specific technical skills.

This role can be based in Knutsford or Northampton, with a hybrid working model that requires a minimum of 3 days per week in the office.

Purpose of the role

To collaborate with product owners and other technical teams involved in the product development process and utilise their knowledge of the bank's technologies to enact the vision defined in the product roadmap.

Accountabilities
  • Provision of subject matter expertise to support the collaboration between the product owner and the technical side of product development.
  • Support the development and implementation of the product strategy and vision defined in the product roadmap and communicate them with the relevant stakeholders and the development team.
  • Collaboration with internal stakeholders to gather and prioritise product requirements and features based on business value and feasibility that are well defined, measurable and secure.
  • Development and implementation of assessments to ensure continuous testing and improvement of product quality and performance.
  • Monitoring of product performance to identify opportunities for optimisation that meets the banks performance standards.
  • Stay abreast of the latest industry technology trends and technologies, to evaluate and adopt new approaches to improve product development and delivery.

  • Collaborate with other areas of work, for business aligned support areas to keep up to speed with business activity and the business strategy.
  • Engage in complex analysis of data from multiple sources of information, internal and external sources such as procedures and practises (in other areas, teams, companies, etc).to solve problems creatively and effectively.
  • Communicate complex information. 'Complex' information could include sensitive information or information that is difficult to communicate because of its content or its audience.
  • Influence or convince stakeholders to achieve outcomes.
