Job description

Technology Product Manager, Data Science – £65,000 - £70,000 – Perm

Join us and be part of a mission-driven, independent publisher. You’ll work with a diverse group of people who share a passion for empowering researchers, educators, and institutions to shape the future.

About Sage:

Sage is a global academic publisher of books, journals, and library resources with a growing range of technologies to enable discovery, access, and engagement. Believing that research and education are critical in shaping society, Sara Miller McCune founded Sage in 1965. Today, we are controlled by a group of trustees charged with maintaining our independence and mission indefinitely.

Our guaranteed independence means we’re free to:

  • Do more– supporting an equitable academic future, furthering disciplines that drive social change, and helping social and behavioural science make an impact

  • Work together– building lasting relationships, championing diverse perspectives, and co-creating resources to transform teaching and learning

  • Think long-term– experimenting, taking risks, and investing in new ideas

About our Team:

Our Technology Product Management team plays a central role in delivering scalable, innovative, and business-focused technology solutions. The team is tasked with developing and advancing our enterprise data and analytics capabilities. This effort supports improved decision-making, operational excellence, and long-term organisational growth. We work closely with Engineering, Architecture, Infrastructure, Quality Assurance, Delivery Management, and business leaders across various functions. Together, we deliver data platforms, analytics products, and modern data solutions that provide measurable value. We encourage a collaborative, inclusive environment where curiosity, innovation, and continuous improvement thrive, and diverse perspectives enable us to tackle complex challenges.

Could you be our new Technology Product Manager, Data Science? Are you?
  • Experienced in managing technology, software, analytics, or data-focused products through the full product lifecycle, from discovery and prioritisation to delivery and continuous improvement?

  • Able to demonstrate success partnering with software engineering, data engineering, or data science teams to deliver products that achieve measurable business outcomes?

  • Confident translating complex technical concepts, user needs, and business challenges into clear priorities, product requirements, and actionable roadmaps?

  • Skilled in Agile product development practices, including backlog management, user story creation, prioritisation frameworks, and iterative delivery?

  • Knowledgeable about enterprise technologies, data platforms, analytics solutions, data warehousing, visualisation tools, or related digital products?

  • Familiar with data science and machine learning concepts, including model development lifecycles, evaluation approaches, and practical business applications?

  • An effective communicator who can build credibility with senior stakeholders, influence decisions, and create alignment across diverse teams without direct authority?

  • Comfortable using data, metrics, KPIs, and customer insights to evaluate product performance, make informed decisions, and continuously improve outcomes?

Your new role:

As a Technology Product Manager, Data Science, you will invent the vision, strategy, and roadmap for data and machine learning products that deliver measurable business value. Acting as the link between technical teams and collaborators, you will translate opportunities into meaningful solutions. You will guarantee that product investments meet organisational priorities and customer needs. You will partner closely with data scientists, engineers, analysts, and business leaders to build products that unlock insights, support better decision-making, and drive strategic growth.

  • Define and communicate a clear product vision and strategy for data science, analytics, and machine learning products that align with business priorities and customer outcomes.

  • Prioritise product initiatives, features, and improvements using data, customer feedback, and business insights to improve value and return on investment.

  • Collaborate with data science, engineering, quality assurance, and delivery teams to bring high-quality solutions from concept through to adoption.

  • Lead product discovery activities to understand user needs, validate opportunities, and ensure solutions address real business challenges.

  • Build positive relationships with collaborators at all levels, gaining alignment on priorities and successfully influencing decision-making.

  • Establish and track product success measures, including benchmarks and important metrics, using performance insights to continuously refine the roadmap.

  • Champion Agile ways of working and support effective backlog management, prioritisation, and delivery practices across distributed teams.

  • Proactively identify risks, remove obstacles, and adapt plans to ensure the successful delivery of valuable, scalable, and balanced products.

Overview of Benefits
  • 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays) with 2 additional floating personal days.

  • Hybrid working up to 2 days per week in office and a home working allowance.

  • Life assurance, income protection, and travel insurance.

  • Private medical cover and access to the company doctor.

  • Tuition scheme and support for pursuing professional qualifications, including access to Sage books and journals.

  • Variety of snacks and beverages available in the office.

  • Healthy lifestyle reimbursement and anniversary trips.

  • Access to Company loans (season ticket loan, rental deposit loan, cycle loan).
