Job summary

Close Brothers is seeking a Business Analyst/Product Lean role within our Technology Product team in the UK, offering a hybrid working pattern. The successful candidate will help translate business problems into Epics and Stories, work with engineers and stakeholders, and ensure delivery readiness with robust evidence and metrics.

The role emphasizes understanding API design, data flows, and alignment with regulatory standards, with opportunities to influence product development and governance

Qualifications

• Experience in a digital, data, technology or engineering function, working closely with Agile software delivery teams and business stakeholders.
• Ability to discuss design concepts (APIs, data flows, integration patterns) with engineers to shape high quality requirements.
• Track record in evaluating complex business problems and data, identifying root causes and delivering value.
• Ability to analyze interface definitions (Swagger/OpenAPI) and use SQL or data analysis tools for validation and readiness.

Responsibilities

• Works closely with Product Owners, Software Engineers, QA Engineers, UX designers, and business stakeholders to shape Epics and Stories.
• Interpret context and partner with Product Owner to align Epics with value outcomes and goals.
• Create and shape Epics and Stories that are fit for all consumers and maintain flow across sprints.
• Collaborate to define performance metrics to optimize value stream flow.
• Engage with stakeholders to shape problems and opportunities using evidence.
• Ensure governance and compliance reporting meets standards set by Regulatory Bodies.

Working as part of the Technology Product team our ideal team member will have previous experience in strengthening product development capacity by ensuring that business problems are clearly understood, priorities are well-shaped, and intent is translated into delivery-ready work ahead of implementation with excellent interpersonal skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Works closely with Product Owners, Software Engineers, QA Engineers, UX designers, other enduring team representatives and a wide range of business stakeholders.
• Applies value stream and customer journey expertise to rapidly interpret context and partners with the Product Owner to shape business problems into Epics aligned to value outcomes and product goals.
• Accountable for creating and shaping Epics and Stories aligned to Product Owner goals and value outcomes, ensuring they are fit for all consumers (engineering, testing, UAT, business stakeholders); uses delivery insight and metrics to maintain continuous flow across current and next sprint.
• Collaborates with stakeholders to define performance metrics that optimise flow across the value stream.
• Works continuously with business stakeholders on an ongoing product journey; helping shape problems and opportunities, grounding discussions in evidence.
• Ensures that all governance and compliance requirements are adhered to and that required reporting and review activities required by the Regulatory Bodies are carried out to the standards required.

WE WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU IF YOU HAVE/ARE:

• Experience gained within a digital, data, technology or engineering function, operating in close proximity to Agile software delivery teams and business stakeholders.
• Technically literate, able to discuss design concepts (APIs, data flows, integration patterns) with engineers to shape high quality requirements.
• A strong track record in evaluating complex business problems and data, identify root causes, and devise effective solutions that deliver business value.
• Demonstrable technical credibility through the ability to analyse and challenge interface definitions (e.g. Swagger / OpenAPI) and use simple SQL or other data analysis tools to support analysis, data validation, and delivery readiness.
• Able to maintain an understanding of systems architecture principles
• Evidence of ongoing professional development in relevant disciplines (e.g., Business Analysis, Agile delivery, or SFIA-aligned training).

IT IS NOT ESSENTIAL BUT IT WOULD BE GREAT IF YOU HAVE:

• An understanding of financial services regulatory context
• Familiarity with cloud platforms, CI/CD and automated testing practices.
• Worked in small, cross functional Agile squads (5-9 people).
• Exposure to system analysis activities (data mapping, embedded logic interpretation).
• Experience using backlog tools (Azure DevOps, Jira) to manage Epics and Stories.
• An awareness of secure development practices, data privacy requirements and how they influence design.
