Job Description:

Department IT / Information Technology Location(s) Central London, Manchester Salary £35,382 - £37,446 (dependent on location) Job description

MI5 and MI6 are part of the UK’s Intelligence Services. We work together to safeguard Britain’s people, interests and businesses from various threats at home, overseas and online, including cyber-attacks, espionage, terrorism, and organised crime. Working across our vital missions, you’ll deliver impact at the heart of national security, all within a supportive and inclusive environment that allows everyone to thrive.

Working in supportive, welcoming teams, you’ll develop the skills, knowledge and experience you need to thrive as part of our technology workforce. The two-year programme consists of a combination of on-the-job and formal training.

Whichever specialism you choose, you’ll have plenty of responsibility as you collaborate with welcoming colleagues on unique, real-world projects that help protect the UK. You could be developing core applications, creating innovative solutions, meeting business needs and so much more – one thing is guaranteed: you’ll work as part of a friendly, collaborative team contributing to our mission.

As part of the programme, you’ll need to select a specialism from the following:

Central London

  • Business Analysis - MI5
  • Data Science & Machine Learning - MI5
  • Delivery Manager - MI5
  • User Experience (UX) Design - MI5
  • Engineering (Software & Data) - MI5
  • Engineering (Software, Data & Infrastructure) - MI6
  • Information & Cyber Security - MI5

  • Engineering (Software & Data) - MI5
  • The programme begins in Autumn 2025. So, if you have (or are expecting) a 2:2 or above in your STEM degree by September 2025, you can now register your interest. You’ll also need to live in, or be able to commute to, central London or Manchester.

You’ll receive a competitive salary of £35,382 - £37,446, as well as other benefits including 25 days’ annual leave and investment into your own training and development, and access to our on-site facilities including a gym, restaurant and coffee bars. Plus, you’ll be given all the support you need to build a fulfilling career with us.

The application window for the Technology Graduate Development Programme will open on 2nd September 2024.

We’d particularly encourage women and people from Black, Asian or other ethnic minority backgrounds to register their interest for these roles. We recognise these groups are currently underrepresented in our workforce. It’s vital that we create a culture where different people with different backgrounds, identities, insights, skills, perspectives and lived experiences are welcomed, supported and valued – and where you’ll always be encouraged to contribute, shape our work and be yourself.

    Register your interest now

As part of the registration of interest, you’ll be invited to online events prior to the campaign opening. There’ll be a virtual event where you can find out more about the role, and we’re also offering a skills event which provides general tips about completing a job application and preparing for interview. These events will last for about an hour and run on:

    Virtual Event

    Wednesday 28th August - 1 - 2pm and 6 - 7pm

    Skills Event

    Friday 30th August 1 – 2pm

A registration of interest does not constitute a job application, nor will such registration have any bearing upon the recruitment process itself. Any individuals who register their interest and who decide subsequently to apply for the Technology Graduate Development Programme will need to complete an application form once the window for applications has opened.

Once the application window has opened, we welcome applications from all candidates, regardless of their ethnic background, gender, disability and/or any other characteristic(s). All applications will be assessed solely on merit.
