Technologist - Polymer Chemistry
Location: Lancashire

Smart4Chemicals are recruiting for a polymer manufacturer looking to add a Technologist to their Polymer R&D team, focusing on advanced chemical analysis of monomers to support new material development and product optimisation.

This is a hands-on role suited to a PhD, or early-career professional with relevant experience in polymer or chemical analysis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, conduct, and interpret experimental work focused on chemical characterisation of monomers and related materials
  • Carry out detailed analysis using GPC, GC-MS, GC-FID, LC-MS and other microscopy or chromatography methods
  • Support product and process innovation through accurate, high-quality data generation and reporting
  • Collaborate with internal R&D, scale-up, and manufacturing teams to deliver analytical insights for new materials and continuous improvement projects
  • Work with third-party providers and internal stakeholders to co-ordinate specialist analytical support where required
  • Promote rigorous SHE standards and maintain safe laboratory practices across all activities

Key Requirements:

  • Degree, Master's, or PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, or a closely related discipline
  • Practical experience in GPC, GC-MS, or GC-FID for chemical, monomer, or polymer analysis (academic or industrial setting)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail in data interpretation
  • Effective team player with good communication skills and a proactive approach to technical challenges

Awareness of safe lab operations and the importance of data integrity and IP in an R&D setting
