Brief Description
You’ll help keep our nation moving every single day. This is a critical part of the work we do, which involves the daily upkeep of the rail network.
As a technician, you’ll work outdoors in a team, supporting essential maintenance to keep the railway running safely and smoothly for passengers and freight users.
Our technician community comes from diverse backgrounds, and this might be your first consideration of a career in rail. We focus on your transferable skills and behaviours; if you can demonstrate them, we will provide all necessary training to ensure you work safely and competently on the network.
This is an electrical-based role requiring applicants to be qualified in electrical installation at a minimum of NVQ level 2, with NVQ level 3 preferred.

Our technicians provide the essential link between the team leader and operatives, specializing in:
Distribution and Plant - Working with distribution and plant equipment vital for powering the railway. You’ll develop a broad range of technical skills across manual, electrical, and digital equipment.
Technicians work outdoors in all conditions, often performing manual work and transporting equipment across challenging terrain. Safety, rule adherence, and teamwork are critical, especially near moving trains at high speed.
