About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Highway Technician as we are currently seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual to join our Structures & Street Lighting Team at Leicestershire County Council.

As a Street Lighting Technician within the street lighting design team, you'll be assisting in the undertaking of lighting designs and calculations & also be responsible for on-site inspections, arranging the installation, maintenance and the repair of street lighting systems throughout our local area. You will work closely with our team of engineers to ensure that street lights are working efficiently and cost-effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain and repair street lighting systems, including luminaires, control systems, and power supply systems.
  • Carry out regular checks and inspections of street lights to ensure they are working correctly and safely.
  • Keep accurate records of work carried out and report any problems to the appropriate team members.
  • Follow health and safety protocols at all times, ensuring that all work is completed safely and to a high standard.

The nature of the work may involve you carrying out work outside of normal working hours and at different locations than your designated base.

About You

To apply for this post, you must hold or have:

  • GCSE Grades A - C or equivalent in Maths and English; ideally, you should also have an NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Electrical or another relevant subject.
  • Experience of working in an engineering setting including design, management, maintenance or administrative processes. These qualities in a street lighting or electrical services environment would be beneficial.
  • Experience in working with public lighting systems, including individual luminaires, control systems, and power supply systems would be beneficial; the ability to read technical diagrams and drawings with strong analytical and problem-solving skills would be advantageous.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal with the ability to work well both as part of a team and independently.
  • Willingness to work outdoors and in all weather conditions.
  • Experience of working in the office/business environment using Microsoft Office and/or equivalent software. Experience of lighting design software would be beneficial.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with Councillors, members of the public, external clients & Leicestershire County Council staff.
