As a technician, you’ll work outdoors in a team, supporting essential maintenance to keep the railway running safely and smoothly for passengers and freight users.

Our technician community comes from diverse backgrounds, and this role is suitable even if you have no prior rail experience. We value your transferable skills and behaviors and will train you to work safely and effectively on the network.

About the role (Internal & External)

Our technicians serve as the vital link between team leaders and operatives, specializing in areas such as:

  • Track maintenance, inspection, and repair of the railway's track network, including rails, sleepers, ballast, drainage, and structures.

Working outdoors in all weather conditions, often involving manual labor and transporting equipment across challenging terrain, with safety and teamwork being paramount as you work near moving trains at high speeds.

You will be a natural team player, capable of leading when needed, delivering work safely, and ensuring your team meets safety standards. You’ll be a role model for safe working behaviors and confident to challenge risks to safety.
