A local government authority in Scotland seeks an experienced science technician to support educational services in high schools. The role involves preparation of lab materials, ensuring safety measures, and working collaboratively with teaching teams. This part-time position requires a relevant science qualification and will offer flexible hours to accommodate 21 hours across 4 days.
The Technician Support Service provides technical support to Educational Services schools and other education establishments. The vacancy is in one or more of our high school's science departments, and we are seeking to employ an experienced and qualified science technician to join our current teams in support of the school curriculum.
You must be fully qualified in a science area of expertise and preferably have gained practical laboratory experience and a knowledge of relevant health & safety and COSHH regulations.
You will be an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual with the ability to work both as a team member supporting the science technician and teaching teams, and on your own as required.
You will provide a high level, quality service in support of school(s) teaching and learning processes and fully understand and apply the key purpose and accountabilities of the post in your daily duties. These duties include the safe preparation of materials and equipment for science lessons and the application of relevant Health & Safety measures.
Your technical and Health & Safety support will be provided to staff, pupils, students, NQTs, and extracurricular clubs.
You will work within busy departments and with a variety of people, sometimes supporting other locations, so you should be keen, adaptable, and able to communicate clearly and enjoy working with others.
While based at Our Lady & St Patrick's High School, you will be required to support across other WDC schools.
This post is for 3 x 7-hour days, with flexibility to accommodate 21 hours across 4 days.
Please note that as this is a part-time position, the salary will be pro-rata'd.
This post is considered Regulated Work with Children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2020, and membership with the PVG scheme is essential. Further details can be found here.
