Scarborough Sixth Form College is seeking a part-time Technical Support Technician to assist teaching staff and students in Physics and Engineering. The role offers broad technical duties and opportunities for professional development within the Creative Faculty and Natural Sciences.
You will have laboratory experience, knowledge of safe working practices, and strong communication skills to work with teachers and the Science Technician to support coursework and study assignments.
To provide high quality technical and administrative support to staff and students, specifically in relation to Physics and Engineering.
Brief Job Description
This is an attractive opportunity for a suitably skilled technician to join Scarborough Sixth Form College. This is a varied role with good opportunity for professional development.
Alongside a range of technical duties there will be opportunities to work alongside students in support of their study assignments.
Technical support will be primarily for the physics and engineering curriculum across our Creative Faculty and the Faculty of Natural Sciences. This curriculum includes
This curriculum is delivered by four full-time teaching staff across the faculties.
You must have relevant laboratory experience either through your studies or in a work environment. A good understanding of safe working practices in a laboratory environment is also essential.
You will work closely with teachers and the Science Technician to help support students in their studies, so you will need good communication and interpersonal skills.
A pro-active and flexible approach is essential along with the ability to organise your workload to best meet the needs of the service.
Grade and Salary Range
The successful candidate will be appointed to scale point 5 of the College’s Salary Structure for Support Staff, currently paid at £25,159 p.a. for full-time. Actual salary will be pro-rata to the hours and weeks worked and includes a pro-rata payment for holidays (e.g., approx. £6,047 p.a., for 15 hours per week).
The contract will be on a permanent basis for 15 hours per week, starting as soon as the successful candidate is available following recruitment and safeguarding checks.
