Job summary

The Bedford College Group is seeking a Technician in Multi-Trade to join our Construction department at the Corby/Wellingborough campus. This UK-based permanent, full-time role offers a salary of £24,552 to £26,754 per year, 37 hours per week, and many development opportunities.

You will maintain workshops, manage stock and equipment, support lectures and learners, ensure safety and COSHH compliance, and collaborate across facilities to uphold high standards of training and student experience.

Qualifications

  • Level 2 NVQ/Diploma in Construction or Building Services or equivalent.
  • Experience in practical construction industry and knowledge of current trade practices.
  • COSHH awareness and safety competency; willingness to obtain First Aid and forklift qualifications.
  • Ability to support learners and work effectively in a team.
  • Flexibility to work across College locations.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain safe, clean and well-organised workshop facilities and ensure tools and equipment are secure and serviceable.
  • Manage stock, tool inventories, budgets and purchasing; supervise servicing of equipment.
  • Support Lecturers and Learners in Built Environment and Construction workshops; prepare practical work areas and teaching aids.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and conduct COSHH assessments; manage hazards and site security.
  • Collaborate across Construction facilities and participate in engagement activities while promoting safeguarding and inclusion.

Role: Technician – Multi-Trade

Location: Tresham College – Corby / Wellingborough Campus

Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £24,552 and £26,754 per annum DOE and Qualifications, 27 days annual leave plus Bank holidays,People’s Pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.

Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week – 52 weeks per year

Contract Type: Permanent – Full Time

About The Role

We are currently seeking a Technician in Multi-Trade to join our Construction department at The Bedford College Group.

As a Technician, you play an important role in the success of our students through:

  • Workshop Operations & Maintenance - Maintain safe, clean and well-organised workshop facilities, ensuring machinery, tools, equipment and materials are secure, serviceable and ready to support high-quality practical learning.
  • Stock, Equipment & Budget Management - Manage consumable stocks, tool inventories and equipment records, oversee purchasing and goods received, monitor expenditure against budgets, and coordinate the servicing and repair of workshop equipment.
  • Teaching & Learner Support - Support Lecturers and Trainers across Built Environment and Construction workshops, prepare practical work areas and teaching aids, provide guidance to learners, and lead or provide cover for practical delivery when required.
  • Health, Safety & Workshop Compliance - Ensure workshops comply with current safety regulations, undertake risk and COSHH assessments, maintain site security, manage hazards appropriately, and address student discipline in line with College procedures.
  • Collaboration, Engagement & Professional Standards - Support wider Construction facilities, marketing and engagement activities, while promoting safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion, health and safety, and continuous professional development.
About You
  • Construction Qualifications & Industry Experience - Holds a Level 2 NVQ/Diploma in a Construction or Building Services trade, with practical construction industry experience and knowledge of current trade practices.
  • Workshop, Tools & Stock Management - Experienced in preparing, maintaining and repairing tools and equipment, managing stock inventories, ordering materials, maintaining accurate records, and using standard IT software for administrative tasks.
  • Health, Safety & Safe Working Practices - Strong knowledge of safe working practices involving tools, machinery and COSHH, with an awareness of wider health and safety requirements and a willingness to achieve First Aid and forklift qualifications.
  • Student Support, Communication & Teamwork - Committed to providing a high-quality and supportive learning environment, communicating confidently with students and colleagues, working effectively with diverse groups, and contributing positively to team objectives.
  • Professionalism, Safeguarding & Flexibility - Self-motivated, organised and able to work with minimal supervision, while upholding College values, safeguarding and professional boundaries, continuously developing skills, and working flexibly across College locations as required.
