Job summary

The Bedford College Group is seeking a Technician in Multi-Trade to join our Construction department at Tresham College – Corby / Wellingborough Campus. You will help maintain workshops, manage stock and equipment, and support lecturers with practical delivery across Built Environment courses.

Applicants should hold a Level 2 NVQ/Diploma in Construction or Building Services, have practical trade experience and a solid understanding of safety, COSHH and workshop discipline.

Qualifications

  • Level 2 NVQ/Diploma in a Construction or Building Services trade.
  • Practical construction industry experience and knowledge of current trade practices.
  • Experience in workshop, tools and stock management.
  • Knowledge of COSHH and safe working practices.
  • Strong communication and teamwork with students and colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain safe, clean and well-organised workshop facilities, ensuring machinery, tools, equipment and materials are secure and ready for learning.
  • Manage consumable stocks, tool inventories and equipment records; oversee purchasing and equipment servicing.
  • Support Lecturers and Trainers with practical delivery and learner guidance.
  • Ensure workshops comply with safety regulations and COSHH assessments.
  • Collaborate across College locations to support engagement and professional standards.

About The Role

We are currently seeking a Technician in Multi-Trade to join our Construction department at The Bedford College Group.

  • Workshop Operations & Maintenance - Maintain safe, clean and well-organised workshop facilities, ensuring machinery, tools, equipment and materials are secure, serviceable and ready to support high-quality practical learning.
  • Stock, Equipment & Budget Management - Manage consumable stocks, tool inventories and equipment records, oversee purchasing and goods received, monitor expenditure against budgets, and coordinate the servicing and repair of workshop equipment.
  • Teaching & Learner Support - Support Lecturers and Trainers across Built Environment and Construction workshops, prepare practical work areas and teaching aids, provide guidance to learners, and lead or provide cover for practical delivery when required.
  • Health, Safety & Workshop Compliance - Ensure workshops comply with current safety regulations, undertake risk and COSHH assessments, maintain site security, manage hazards appropriately, and address student discipline in line with College procedures.
  • Collaboration, Engagement & Professional Standards - Support wider Construction facilities, marketing and engagement activities, while promoting safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion, health and safety, and continuous professional development.
About You
  • Construction Qualifications & Industry Experience - Holds a Level 2 NVQ/Diploma in a Construction or Building Services trade, with practical construction industry experience and knowledge of current trade practices.
  • Workshop, Tools & Stock Management - Experienced in preparing, maintaining and repairing tools and equipment, managing stock inventories, ordering materials, maintaining accurate records, and using standard IT software for administrative tasks.
  • Health, Safety & Safe Working Practices - Strong knowledge of safe working practices involving tools, machinery and COSHH, with an awareness of wider health and safety requirements and a willingness to achieve First Aid and forklift qualifications.
  • Student Support, Communication & Teamwork - Committed to providing a high-quality and supportive learning environment, communicating confidently with students and colleagues, working effectively with diverse groups, and contributing positively to team objectives.
  • Professionalism, Safeguarding & Flexibility - Self-motivated, organised and able to work with minimal supervision, while upholding College values, safeguarding and professional boundaries, continuously developing skills, and working flexibly across College locations as required.
