The Commercial and Creative Industries at Carshalton College are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Technician/Instructor in Media.
You will be competent in all aspects of Media, including managing and maintaining a multi-camera TV Studio (lighting rig, sound desk, vision-mixer), sound booth, control room, and edit suites. Proficiency in using lighting, sound, and a range of broadcast cameras and film grip equipment is required, along with strong video and audio editing skills. A good understanding of VFX and graphics for moving images is also essential.
The primary responsibilities include maintaining the equipment and fittings of the Media Studios, supporting academic staff during classes, and instructing, supervising, or assessing students individually or in groups, with or without a teaching staff present. Approximately one-third of the hours will involve instructing students, and two-thirds will involve technician duties.
We seek someone experienced with equipment in this area, capable of maintaining tools and explaining technical techniques clearly to beginners. Proficiency in: Premiere CC, After Effects, Photoshop, Animate CC, Illustrator, and Maya is necessary, along with troubleshooting Mac hardware and software, especially Creative Cloud and Maya.
Applicants should hold a formal technical and/or educational qualification, a valid First Aid at Work Certificate (or be willing to obtain one), and possess experience with sound recorders, microphones, and boom poles. Experience in lighting, sound, vision mixing (including green screen, bugs, DVE, and keys), and rigging lights, cameras, sliders, jibs, and grip equipment is required. Good IT skills, time management, prioritization, and the ability to work under pressure to deadlines are essential.
The successful candidate will be eligible for salary increases based on the annual cost of living review, effective from the new academic year.
