About the role

We’re seeking a proactive, technically minded individual to join a small specialist team focused on supporting health and safety compliance across laboratories and specialist facilities.

In this role, you’ll collaborate with Health & Safety managers, academic staff, and technicians to help maintain safe and legally compliant laboratory spaces. A key part of the work involves supporting the safe use and management of hazardous substances, with particular emphasis on COSHH and DSEAR requirements.

Typical duties will include gathering and managing data, maintaining chemical inventories, coordinating minor works and contractor visits, tracking actions, supporting inspections, contributing to safety monitoring processes, and assisting in the development of Risk Assessments and Standard Operating Procedures.

While full training will be provided on health and safety legislation in relation to scientific environments, prior experience handling hazardous substances or working in a laboratory setting would be highly beneficial.

About you

We are seeking a dedicated and meticulous individual with a strong background in laboratory operations and a clear commitment to health and safety. The ideal candidate will possess practical experience in handling hazardous substances, alongside a sound understanding of regulatory frameworks such as COSHH and DSEAR. Equally important is the ability to guide, support, and influence colleagues in adopting and maintaining safe working practices.

This position requires someone who demonstrates professionalism, sound judgment, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as is the capacity to manage multiple priorities with a methodical and solutions-oriented approach. Above all, the successful candidate will be committed to upholding high standards and fostering a positive, proactive safety culture within scientific environments.
