Overview

Windsor Forest Colleges group is looking for a Technician – Commercial Animals within our Animal Management Centre to join our BCA College team on a Fixed Term, Term-Time Only basis (37 weeks TTO).

Technician – Commercial Animals

This position as a Technician - Commercial Livestock at Berkshire College of Agriculture, is a fixed-term, term-time only position. This position involves working 24 hours per week on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays 08:00 – 17:00 with a 1-hour unpaid break.

Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the Technician – Commercial Livestock involve working alongside curriculum and support staff to deliver practical agricultural activities and ensure the welfare of farmed livestock.

This role requires close collaboration with the Livestock Manager and adherence to high standards of animal welfare in compliance with relevant legislation such as the Animal Welfare Act 2006 and Welfare of Farmed Animals Regulations 2007. The technician will also be involved in maintaining cleanliness in work areas and assisting in educational activities with students.

  • Daily management of livestock, operation of machinery and vehicles, and maintaining accurate records as directed by the Livestock Manager.
  • Support for students in practical sessions, which involves supervision and imparting practical skills pertinent to the livestock industry.
  • Engagement in ongoing professional development and adherence to health and safety, equality, safeguarding policies.
  • Flexible approach to work, including potential evening and weekend duties.
