Job summary

Eastleigh Borough Council is seeking a dedicated Technician to join the Point & The Berry Theatre team in Eastleigh. You will support technical delivery across venues and events, working across theatre, cinema, live music, conferences and festivals.

We expect a flexible, 37-hour week including evenings and weekends, with opportunities to work at external locations across Eastleigh Borough and with casual technicians and apprentices under the Technical Manager.

Qualifications

• Educated to A-level standard or equivalent.
• Sound technical knowledge of theatre and live event equipment and systems.
• Follow and promote safe working practices and health and safety procedures.
• Good communication and customer service skills.
• Experience operating and maintaining theatre equipment with focus on sound engineering and audio systems (desirable).
• Experience supporting events including theatre, live music, cinema, conferences and exhibitions (desirable).
• Confidence using sound, lighting and electrical equipment in venue environments (desirable).
• Experience collaborating with artists, visiting companies and community users (desirable).
• Ability to build positive relationships and contribute to a professional team culture (desirable).
• A valid driving licence (desirable).

As such, The Point & The Berry Theatre are looking for an enthusiastic and skilled Technician to join our ambitious technical team.

The role

This is an exciting opportunity to work across a diverse programme of theatre, live music, cinema, conferences, community events and festivals. As a general technician, you will support all aspects of technical delivery across our venues and events programme.

No two days are the same. From theatre productions and live music to cinema screenings, conferences and community events, you’ll play a key role in creating exceptional experiences for artists, audiences and clients.

As a permanent member of the team, you will work a flexible shift pattern that responds to our programme and events schedule. This will include evenings and weekends as part of a 37-hour working week across seven days.

Your role will be to assist the Technical Manager in all aspects of technical operations across The Point, The Berry and external events, while supporting and helping to oversee casual technicians and technical apprentices.

About You

While the role covers a broad range of technical disciplines, we are particularly keen to hear from candidates with strong sound knowledge and experience, helping to complement and strengthen the expertise within our team.

We’re looking for someone who combines excellent technical skills with a positive attitude, strong customer service and a passion for creating outstanding experiences for artists, audiences and clients.

To Be Successful In This Role, You Will Have

• Educated to A-level standard or equivalent

• Experience working collaboratively with artists, visiting companies, professional producers and community users to deliver their technical requirements. (desirable)
• The ability to build positive working relationships and contribute to a supportive team culture built on professionalism, excellence and clear communication. (desirable)
• A valid driving licence (desirable)
