Job summary

Nottingham City Council is seeking five technicians for the Theatre Royal and Royal Concert Hall venues in Nottingham. The role involves hands-on support for visiting companies, getting involved in Get-Ins/Get-Outs, and ensuring safe, high-quality performances.

The ideal candidate will have experience across stage, flys, lighting and sound, plus knowledge of ETC Eos and DiGiCo consoles. 37 hours per week, annualised, permanent contract. Hybrid working may be available.

Qualifications

  • Experience of lighting and/or sound operation for concerts, musicals or plays.
  • Experience liaising with technical crew and incoming companies and of follow spotting.
  • Experience in all technical areas (Stage/Flys/Lighting/Sound) and live flying shows.
  • Experience of the technical delivery of presented/production work in a mid/large scale venue.
  • Experience of running Stage Q’s
  • Knowledge of ETC Eos family lighting consoles and the DiGiCo SD series sound consoles
  • Willingness to work long and unsociable hours
  • Able to work in a team and independently

Responsibilities

About the Role

Technician

Our busy technical department seeking dedicated, enthusiastic and experienced technicians to join our resident fulltime staff. These will be based in either the Theatre Royal or in the Royal Concert Hall. However, will be expected to also work in either venue and any other areas where your skillset may be required.

As a technician, you will provide hands on support to visiting companies and help lead casual staff on Get-Ins, Get-Outs and performances throughout the venue to deliver our performances, rehearsals and events to the highest possible standards of safety, quality and efficiency.

This will include work on mainstage events in both the Theatre Royal and Royal Concert Hall, as well as foyer events, maintenance work and other projects. Also, maintenance periods; to include cleaning, electrical appliance safety inspections and repairs plus, any other remedial work needed by the venue.

The successful applicant will have an up-to-date working knowledge of working on stage for shows, running Q plots, including the use of winches and sliders, running props, scenic truck movements, operating a manual flying system (single purchase counterweight), live show flying, rigging spot lines, brailing, motor rigging and grid work.

Working on Get-Ins and Get-Outs as part of a busy technical department, working safely and efficiently as a team or individually, unloading and loading of vehicles, construction and rigging of scenery, rigging of lighting and sound equipment.

The successful applicant will have an working knowledge of lighting and sound consoles, (venue consoles are ETC Eos family and DiGiCo SD series) a competent knowledge of the set-up and repair of current lighting and sound fixtures and peripherals; an able knowledge of the rigging of motors and associated equipment; a good and up to date knowledge of industry standard practices, procedures and methodology for efficient and safe working within the venue.

About You
The ideal candidate will have:

Technician

  • Experience of lighting and/or sound operation for concerts, musical or plays; professional and amateur. And experience of the technical delivery of presented / production work in a mid/large scale venue.
  • Experience leasing with technical crew and incoming companies and of follow spotting.
  • Experience of working in all technical areas (Stage/Flys/Lighting/Sound) and of Live flying shows
  • Experience of the technical delivery of presented / production work in a mid/large scale venue.
  • Experience of running Stage Q’s
  • A knowledge of ETC Eos family lighting consoles and the DiGiCo SD series sound consoles
  • Willingness to work long and unsociable hours in a sometimes physically demanding environment
  • Happy to work in a team and independently
