The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is one of the top UK schools of Pharmacy. Our degrees are informed and supported by our research and allow students to explore the different aspects of pharmacy.
We aim to recruit an enthusiastic and effective team player, who will positively contribute to the school’s technical services to support the educational experience of undergraduate and postgraduate students and our impactful research community.
Working in partnership with academic and technician colleagues, you will be key in the preparation for practical classes, workshops and examinations. You will support the school’s research laboratories assisting in ensuring the functionality and safety of the laboratories.
This position is full-time (35 hours per week) and open-ended.
Salary: £24,900 – £25,733 per annum, (Grade 3).
Please note that it is not expected that we will appoint above grade 3.13, currently £24,900 per annum.

Job Description
JOB PURPOSE
You will work closely with Professional Services and Academic Staff within the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences to provide comprehensive technical support for teaching and research activity. Engaging in and completing a range of routine tasks to meet operational and customer service requirements. You will provide support and guidance on operational processes, completing key technical duties.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide a service to staff and students by maintaining, servicing and repairing materials, machinery and equipment within teaching spaces and communal areas, advising and training staff and students on their appropriate use using established guidelines
- Prepare all materials and equipment as necessary for customers use and ensure area of responsible is kept clean and tidy
- Undertake stock control, ensuring adequate security and levels of stock are maintained and stock is distributed as required
- Deal with routine enquires from internal and external customers in a professional manner, following established procedures, referring complex enquires to relevant staff members, ensuring all relevant facts and information needed is recorded and passed on
- Assist in the maintenance of routine records, updating databases and analysing routine data/information as required
- Record the results of experiments in a presentable and user-friendly format and to assist staff and students in the preparation of technical data/materials for future reference such as publication or teaching purposes
- Plan and manage small projects ensuring the effective use of resources
- Participate actively within the work team, setting an example and showing a flexible approach to delivering team results

Qualifications And Education
- NVQ 2/GCSE level A-C or equivalent qualification/work related experience
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Experience in constructing, maintaining and repairing equipment
- Significant experience in working in technical support role
- Proficient in the use of appropriate IT packages including MS Outlook, Excel and Word
Customer Service, Communication and Team Working
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with a wide range of people
- Evidence of working well as an effective team member, providing advice and guidance to other team members where necessary
- Ability to deal promptly, effectively and courteously with requests for information or service
Planning, Analysis and Problem Solving
- Ability to use initiative in solving problems and responding to queries ensuring compliance with standard procedures and practices
- Ability to work on own initiative and unsupervised to deadlines, planning, organising and setting priorities for own work, as well as managing small projects as appropriate

- A willingness to undertake further training and development
Desirable Criteria
- A-levels or an equivalent qualification or equivalent work related experience
- Experience of working in a Higher Education environment
- Fluency in Welsh, written and oral
