What you'll do

This is an opportunity to join Wessex Water at a time of unprecedented change for the company and sector, with the potential for you to make a huge difference within your role. Our investment plan proposes a doubling of investment over the next five years, and a large proportion of this is in wastewater.

As a Technical Wastewater Specialist, you will be pivotal in shaping the scale of our investment in the future, including the solutions that will be used as part of our wastewater and environmental programmes in AMP9. Consequently, you will have a variety of responsibilities and the ability to influence all levels of the business plan and the future of the water industry.

You'll need to be able to switch between the big picture and details quickly, working with colleagues to ensure alignment across strategies such as the Drainage and Wastewater Management Plan (DWMP), Water Industry National Environment Programme (WINEP), and Long-Term Delivery Strategy (LTDS).

What you'll need

You should be technically skilled, question usual processes, and propose the best solutions for customers and the environment. This role suits someone with knowledge and experience in designing wastewater solutions, who can also explain their strategic importance.

You will need:

  • To be degree qualified or equivalent, preferably a chartered engineer or with equivalent status
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Personal skills for effective collaboration at all levels
  • Expert knowledge of wastewater treatment processes
  • Knowledge of relevant financial and environmental regulatory frameworks
  • An understanding of wastewater operations and investment costs
  • Experience in asset management and its application to wastewater treatment
What you'll receive
  • A combined pension contribution of up to 20%
  • Career progression and professional development opportunities
  • 25 days' holiday, rising to 28 with service
  • Option to buy up to ten days' holiday and sell up to five
  • A healthcare package to claim back healthcare costs
  • Life assurance of up to eight times your salary
  • An electric car scheme in exchange for part of your salary, subject to conditions
  • Cashback and discounts from 3,000+ retailers
  • One paid volunteering day annually
  • Enhanced family leave and pay arrangements
  • An interactive health and wellbeing platform
  • Support from mental health first aiders
  • A £1,000 referral bonus for successful recommendations
