Job description

The opportunity

Avencia are partnered with a leading insurance organisation to recruit a Technical Underwriter to join their Social Welfare team.

This role sits within the Care/Social Welfare Underwriting team, this position will support the development and oversight of a profitable and growing portfolio. The role works closely with the Head of Care and collaborates cross-functionally with Sales, Actuarial, Claims, and external partners.

Key responsibilities

  • Ensure pricing and underwriting integrity is maintained across delegated business
  • Oversee binder strategy compliance and coverholder audits
  • Monitor account performance and maintain quality of new and existing business
  • Support the growth and development of schemes and open market opportunities
  • Handle complex referrals from underwriters, coverholders, and Claims
  • Participate in product launches and market engagement
  • Provide timely MI and performance reporting
  • Act as a technical lead, contributing to best practice and cross-team collaboration

Skills & experience

  • Proven experience in property liability underwriting
  • Strong understanding of commercial combined products
  • Experience managing or supporting delegated authority accounts (desirable)
  • Background in the Care/Social Welfare sector is a plus
  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills
  • Comfortable interpreting MI and using Excel and e-trading platforms
  • Strong relationship-building skills with brokers and internal teams
  • Ideally studying towards (or open to studying) CII qualifications (fully funded)
