The Department has a strong interdisciplinary theoretical team, along with a strong commitment to media practice and research equivalent activity. Within this environment, students are encouraged to engage critically with the different approaches to the media in a variety of academic and practice disciplines; to develop skills in research and presentation and to explore creative possibilities across a range of practice media. The Department has a team of technical practice tutors and advisors, supervised by the Head of Technical Operations who ensures that staff and technical resources are allocated to meet the needs of practice courses in the Department. Responsibilities
- Work alongside academic staff to deliver print-based modules at undergraduate and postgraduate level, providing technical instruction, teaching, and student support for the School's Illustration facilities.
- Manage the print facilities and oversee use of the Riso printer, Wacom Cintiq tablets, etching press and silk screen printing equipment.
- Liaise with the senior systems administrator to oversee support and maintenance for the Illustration lab comprising 13 iMacs with Wacom Cintiq touch screen displays, and 2 studios with iMacs and scanners.
- Ensure health and safety guidance and insurance requirements are rigorously followed, providing inductions where required, and ensure that students adopt a responsible and professional manner in their use of the facilities.
- Work closely with tutors and convenors to ensure that resources including consumables are available in good working order and ready for use.
- Work alongside students to prepare, install and uninstall work for exhibitions ensuring H&S guidance and best practice is followed.
- Contribute to policies and procedures for student use of facilities, ensuring that health and safety, GDPR, insurance policies, and industry best practice are observed.
- Undertake training as and when required to keep abreast of developments and trends within the fields of animation and digital media production.
- Learning & Teaching: Work closely and supportively with students enabling, advising and supporting them to produce their work.
- Devise and deliver inductions, workshops, and exercises for use of the Illustration facilities, creating an inclusive environment for learning.
- Research, develop, and update learning resources to support technical teaching, ensuring a diverse and appropriate range of examples and approaches.
- Liaise with academic staff as appropriate concerning the technical aspects and production of students' work.
- Research: Undertake regular research to keep abreast of technical and creative developments in the field and advise on purchase of appropriate materials and equipment.
- Contribute to the development of the Illustration facilities in line with professional and industry standards.
- Communication and collaboration: Oversee the completion and exhibition of student Illustration work.
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with colleagues to ensure effective collaboration and manage overlapping responsibilities.
- Provide reports on technical provision and requirements as required by the Head of Technical Operations.
- Contribute to the promotion of the Department and student work, providing support for shows and exhibitions.
- Support Departmental activities and events by contributing technical skills where required.
- Student Welfare: Recognise when a student may be struggling and be aware of varying student abilities and coping mechanisms, demonstrating sensitivity and understanding to all students.
- Share any concerns with regards to student welfare with convenors and the Head of Technical Operations.
- You will be required to undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required.

Essential Criteria
- A BA or equivalent relevant professional qualification or experience.
- Operating and maintaining etching press and silkscreen printing equipment.
- Operating and supporting digital Illustration equipment including Riso printer, flatbed scanners, and Wacom tablets and displays.
- Overseeing and supporting print room resources in an educational setting.
- Print making techniques and materials.
- Book binding and preparing book project work for print publications.
- COSHH regulations and H&S relevant to use of print making facilities.
- Software including Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and Rebelle.
- An approachable and supportive manner.
