Could you be the full-time Technical Team Member to join our team in Wembley and play a key role in assisting with the service, maintenance, repair, and overhaul of locomotives, coaching stock, and equipment to specified standards?
Your future role
Take on a new challenge in Wembley and apply your maintenance expertise in a cutting-edge field. You’ll report to the Senior Production Manager and work alongside a dedicated and passionate Services team at Alstom UK&I.Day-to-day, you’ll work as part of a team to ensure that the fleet is serviced and maintained in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner, while constantly seeking to improve quality.
We’ll look to you to perform the following:
1. Fault-Finding & Technical Support
Provide expert technical support to depot teams, helping resolve complex train faults and assisting with maintenance and repairs.
Carry out diagnostic investigations, particularly on recurring or intermittent issues, both in the depot and out on the network.
Conduct test runs to help close out repeat failures and verify that repairs are effective.
2. Data Handling & Diagnostics
Retrieve and analyse performance data from key onboard systems across our Train Control Centres (TCCs).
Upload fault reports and diagnostics to shared systems to support wider engineering analysis.
Use advanced diagnostic tools, including computer-based systems, to functionally test train-borne systems with minimal supervision.
Perform testing and re-commissioning activities in line with predefined test procedures.
Review and update functional test documentation and technical specifications to ensure continued relevance and accuracy.
Assist with validating technical documents for special checks, modifications, and experimental procedures.
4. Hands-On Maintenance Support
Support with component replacements, servicing, and repairs, particularly on Diesel Multiple Units (DMUs) and electric rolling stock.
Carry out equipment testing and repairs on items removed from trains and identified as faulty.
Take part in operational activities including overhead line isolations, topping up sanding systems, fueling, and other essential servicing tasks.
5. Depot & Fleet Responsibilities
Contribute to general depot duties (e.g., chlorinating water points, gritting in winter, assisting with heavy cleaning in exceptional circumstances).
Operate depot equipment such as Forklift Trucks (FLTs), cranes, and lifting gear (training provided if needed).
Carry out service exams on DMUs and fulfill role-specific tasks such as wheel lathe operation or workshop repairs.
Work closely with the Engineering Support Group (ESG) and specialist engineers to resolve technical issues with systems, components, or procedures.
Provide support to Train Operating Companies (TOCs) at outbases for urgent technical issues.
Mentor and support less experienced team members, and contribute to technical knowledge-sharing across the depot network.
7. Health, Safety & Compliance
Ensure all work is completed in line with safety standards including:
Health & Safety at Work Act (H&SAWA, 1974)
Electricity at Work Regulations (1989)
Railway Group Standards
Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)
Alstom’s Zero Deviation Policy (AZDP) and Lifesaving Rules
Understand and adhere to all Traincare Centre safety and quality procedures.
8. Systems & Reporting Tools
Use key business systems including:
Alista (Alstom's maintenance and engineering management system)
SAP (Systems, Applications, and Products in Data Processing)
SES (Service Execution System) or their future equivalents
9. Additional Responsibilities
Drive company vehicles for breakdown support or travel between sites (where authorized).
Act as an appointed or nominated person for specific tasks or roles, including undertaking relevant training for future equipment types.
