Overview




The Waters Taunton Manufacturing Facility is looking for a Tech Support Manager to join the team. This critical and highly visible position will be the leading technical authority on chemical processes at the Taunton site and will be responsible for ensuring their optimal performance and successful results. Responsibilities include leading the troubleshooting, support, and improvement of existing manufacturing processes as well as working with R&D to transfer new chromatographic products into the Taunton site. To achieve these objectives, this individual will manage a team of chemists working in a chemical laboratory environment in support of a larger manufacturing facility.

We are looking for an individual who is highly motivated, flexible, and a quick learner, who exhibits methodical thinking to troubleshoot highly complex chemistry-based challenges. The Taunton Manufacturing Facility is an extremely fast-paced environment where many sophisticated projects must be completed simultaneously.






Responsibilities




    Lead the effort to troubleshoot, support, scale-up, and improve existing manufacturing processes using advanced knowledge of chemistry and statistical analysis.
  1. Create and test hypotheses to solve complex problems, design and assign experiments to assess process robustness and repeatability, analyze and interpret data to arrive at scientifically justifiable conclusions, and drive the Tech Support team to a successful outcome.
  2. Introduce new chromatographic products into the Taunton Manufacturing Facility by coordinating product transfer from R&D. This requires working with multiple disciplines including Engineering, Production, QC, QA, and others.
  3. Develop procedures for manufacturing reagents, standards, and new products in small scale glassware using sophisticated techniques.
  4. Assist Engineering, Production, and other departments with the implementation of new equipment and the improvement of existing equipment. Collect and analyze data to drive continuous improvements.
  5. Any other duties as assigned.





Qualifications




  1. Master of Science or PhD in Organic Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, or related field with a proven track record regarding the application of chemical principles to solving complex technical problems is required.
  2. 10+ years of experience in an industrial and/or laboratory setting is required.
  3. Experience managing a team of scientists is required.
  4. A high degree of understanding of theoretical chemistry, very strong analytical skills, and the ability to solve very complex problems.
  5. Thorough familiarity with the implementation of small-scale glassware reactions and their associated techniques.
  6. Excellent attention to detail and record-keeping abilities with a high level of organizational skill.
  7. Thorough familiarity and adherence with chemical and laboratory safety.
  8. Experience with and theoretical knowledge of analytical and purification techniques such as thin layer chromatography, column chromatography, distillation, recrystallization, sublimation, etc.
  9. Experience analyzing and interpreting chromatograms, IR, NMR, and Mass Spectra data.
