Job description

We are looking for a Maintenance Manager to join Thames Water permanently.

The successful applicant for this role will have a significant impact in contributing to the successful operation at the North East London Water Production sites.

You will lead a team of mechanical and electrical technicians and have the attributes to coach them and ensure their activities are integrated within the day-to-day operation of sites.

With your team, you will be responsible for delivering the proactive and reactive maintenance plan for 5 Water Treatment Works and the Water Booster Stations and Service Reservoirs that form part of the North East Transmission system.

Their impact will be immediate and will contribute to better operation and management of processes on site, in the context of asset standards, site-wide improvements in health and safety, and capacity to carry out process checks, maintenance, and remediation activities.

The role is unique in that its responsibilities allow for site-wide improvements.

36 hours a week, Monday to Friday, plus inclusion on our Out of Hours Co-ordinator rota.

What will you be doing as a Maintenance Manager
  1. People Management – Responsible for principles of people management, including monthly team meetings, 1-2-1s, and adherence to the Performance Development Review framework. Track and manage individual performance levels and provide support as needed.
  2. Coaching and mentoring – Focus on coaching staff on the operation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment, and asset standards.
  3. Ensure your team understands how and why to undertake their activities.
  4. Provide resources and support from other departments for coaching, and possess attributes of a good coach: personable, good listener, effective communicator, and able to track learning needs.
  5. Process Management – Collaborate with process and technical teams to ensure site processes are optimal.
  6. Oversee preventative and corrective maintenance activities.
  7. Train team members to assist skilled tradesmen when needed, emphasizing teamwork at all levels.
  8. Health and Safety – Lead health and safety initiatives, ensuring team reports hazards and follows policies to maintain safety standards.
  9. Enforce Thames Water health and safety policies and manage safety in line with company manual.
  10. Promote good communication to improve health and safety standards on site.
What should you bring to the role?
  • Mechanical and Electrical maintenance management experience, with strong operational and engineering skills.
  • Degree or equivalent, preferably in Engineering/Science.
  • Experience in a process-related industry; water industry experience is desirable.
  • Experience managing operational staff, with an understanding of employee engagement and team structure.
  • Excellent listening, communication, and adaptability skills for coaching.
  • Ability to work in a team and understand team dynamics.
  • Strong focus on health and safety.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize workload, considering operational strategy beyond daily tasks.
