Job description

Technical Superintendent – Permanent – Southampton/London – Excellent package

This is an excellent opportunity to join a well established ship management company based in either Southampton or London.

As Technical Superintendent, you will be responsible for assigned vessels in accordance with the company’s quality and safety management system policies to ensure that downtime is minimized and that the vessels always perform in accordance with the terms of their respective contracts or charter parties.

Responsibilities include:
  1. To monitor and oversee vessels electronic planned maintenance system.
  2. To prepare maintenance, repair, spare gear, dry-docking, stores and lube oil budgets, together with monthly cash expenditure on all budgeted items.
  3. To visit, or arrange visits, to vessels on a regular basis to ensure that the laid down standards are maintained.
  4. To prepare, and ensure that crews carry out, the relevant planned maintenance schedules in accordance with Company policy and PM schedules.
  5. To approve all maintenance, repair, dry-docking and communication invoices in accordance with agreed authorisation levels, within timely receipt by the office.
  6. To monitor vessels speed and consumption at sea and consumption in port, together with the efficient operation of the cargo gear, cargo and ballast pumps, inert gas system, and tank cleaning equipment, together with other deck and safety equipment.
  7. To monitor vessels Class and trading certificates with the Marine Department, to ensure timely renewal and/or survey.
Experience Required:
  1. Qualified to at least Class II Certificate of Competency or suitable equivalent military qualification.
  2. Knowledge of technical management, knowledge of port and vessel operations, maintenance, Flag and Class requirements/regulations.
  3. Extensive experience as a sea-going Engineer (RoRo experience highly desirable).
  4. Detailed knowledge and experience of requirements covered by ISM.
  5. Experience of successful people management and team development.
  6. Budgetary management experience.
