Job summary

Harmony Fire Ltd. is seeking a Technical Specification Manager (Height Safety) to ensure technical robustness and compliance of height safety solutions before client proposals.

The role works with sales, estimating, design and engineering to deliver sound, compliant specifications and maintain a standards library. You will review regulations (Work at Height, BS EN 795, BS 8437) and support CAD-driven design while driving best-value outcomes for customers.

Qualifications

• Proven technical background in height safety systems.
• Experience reviewing or authoring technical specifications in a height safety or life-safety environment.
• Understanding of Work at Height Regulations 2005 and BS EN 795/BS 8437 standards.

Responsibilities

• Review and validate the technical robustness of every height safety specification before issue.
• Ensure specifications comply with Work at Height Regulations 2005, BS 7883, BS EN 795, BS 8437 and other standards.
• Act as the technical authority and escalation point for complex or non-standard height safety solutions.
• Construct technically robust solutions and specifications on projects with sales/estimating support.
• Support sales and estimating in developing technically sound, deliverable proposals.
• Maintain and update the technical standards library, approved products list and templates.
• Liaise with manufacturers to confirm specified products remain compliant.
• Review design/installation methodologies for deliverability and practicality.
• Review and create CAD drawings to support specifications.
• Ensure safe, value-driven delivery approaches and suitable resources.

The Technical Specification Manager (Height Safety) exists to protect the technical robustness and compliance of every height safety solution Harmony Fire proposes — before it reaches a client. Sitting within the Service function and reporting to the Head of Pre-Construction Service, the role acts as the technical authority for height safety specifications, reviewing and validating fall protection, anchor, edge protection, and access system designs against the relevant standards and legislation (including the Work at Height Regulations 2005, BS 7883, BS EN 795, and BS 8437) before proposals are issued. Working closely with sales, estimating, design, and engineering colleagues, you will ensure every specification is technically sound, deliverable, and correctly compliant — while remaining commercially workable. You will act as the checkpoint that protects Harmony Fire’s reputation as a trusted height safety partner, maintaining the technical standards library and product approvals list, supporting colleagues with technical guidance and training, and keeping the business ahead of changes in height safety legislation and best practice.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and validate the technical robustness of every height safety specification before it is issued to a client.
• Ensure all specifications comply with the Work at Height Regulations 2005, BS 7883, BS EN 795, BS 8437, and other relevant standards and legislation.
• Act as the technical authority and escalation point for complex or non-standard height safety solutions.
• Construct technically robust solutions and specifications directly on projects where dedicated technical support is required, working alongside sales and estimating.
• Support the sales and estimating teams in developing technically sound, deliverable proposals that meet client requirements.
• Maintain and update the technical standards library, approved products list, and specification templates.
• Liaise with manufacturers and suppliers to confirm specified products remain compliant and fit for purpose.
• Review proposed design and installation methodologies to confirm they are deliverable in practice.
• Review and create CAD drawings to support technical specifications, ensuring designs are accurate and reflect the specified solution.
• Validate the proposed methodology for delivering each project in terms of health and safety, delivery approach, and commercial elements, ensuring it represents best value for the customer.
• Ensure each specification includes the right labour and sub-contract resource, suitable materials, and the correct plant and equipment to complete the job.
• Work with delivery teams post-handover to confirm projects are being executed in line with the specified technical solution, including carrying out on-site audits.
• Provide technical training and guidance to sales, estimating, and engineering colleagues on height safety standards.
• Identify and flag technical or compliance risk in proposals prior to submission, ensuring appropriate sign‑off.
• Keep abreast of changes in height safety legislation, standards, and best practice, updating internal guidance accordingly.
• Support investigation of technical or compliance issues where they arise, feeding lessons learned back into the specification process.
• Work with the quality and compliance functions to ensure specifications and supporting documentation are audit‑ready.
• Provide technical input into bid and tender responses where a height safety narrative is required.
• Champion a safety‑first culture across every specified solution.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

• An A-player mindset — high standards, extreme ownership and the drive to do things properly, the first time.
• Proven technical background in height safety systems — fall protection, anchor systems, edge protection, and access / walkway systems.
• Strong working knowledge of the Work at Height Regulations 2005, BS 7883, BS EN 795, BS 8437, and other relevant standards.
• Experience reviewing or authoring technical specifications in a height safety, fire, or life‑safety environment.
• Understanding of how technical specification interacts with commercial and proposal development.
• Background working closely with sales and estimating functions.
• Experience working with CAD packages (e.g. AutoCAD) to review and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Confident challenging sales or commercial pressure where technical robustness or compliance is at risk.
• Strong communicator — able to translate technical detail into plain language for sales colleagues and clients.
• Full UK driving licence — national travel required.
• Relevant industry qualifications such as IRATA, PASMA, NEBOSH, CSCS, or equivalent height safety / health and safety qualifications (preferable).
