Job Description:

The University of Bristol’s School of Physics is seeking a full-time Radiation Protection Supervisor (Technical Specialist) to manage all aspects of Radiation Safety for the School of Physics.

You will work closely with the technical and academic teams within the Interface Analysis Centre, including the HyDUS project, National Threat Reduction Programme, and Sellafield Centre of Expertise in Uranium and Reactive Metals.

What will you be doing?

As the Radiation Protection Supervisor, you will be responsible for managing radiation safety across multiple projects and sites (including UoB main and off-campus locations). Your duties include advising the School of Physics Senior Leadership on compliance with legislation and policies, formulating and reviewing local rules and safe systems of work, providing guidance on radiation risk assessments, conducting audits, reviewing radiation inventories, and performing inspections, training, and incident investigations. You will ensure proper handling and management of radioactive materials, report anomalies, and escalate issues through the proper channels.

You will collaborate with the University's Radiation Protection Advisor, Local Radiation Protection Supervisors, and the School's Technical Manager.

You will also work with senior academics, research staff, PhD students, School Management, Technical Services staff, and external agencies.

You will join a vibrant team conducting nuclear research, including nuclear forensics, nuclear medicine, and advanced nuclear reactors for Net Zero.
