The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Technical Services Manager to lead the delivery of mechanical engineering and maintenance services within a complex and critical facilities environment in Surrey.
This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically biased engineering professional to oversee operations and maintenance activities, ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient performance of critical plant and infrastructure. The successful candidate will lead engineering teams, manage specialist contractors, and drive continuous improvement across all aspects of service delivery.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will be a mechanically focused engineering leader with extensive experience managing maintenance operations within a critical or highly regulated environment.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Minimum five years\' experience in technical services, estates, facilities management, or building services environments.
- Proven experience managing engineering and maintenance teams.
- Recognised mechanical apprenticeship with HNC/HND, City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical building systems, including ventilation, steam systems, pumps, pressurisation systems, water services, and effluent treatment plant operations.
- Experience managing critical engineering infrastructure within regulated environments.
- Strong understanding of Safe Systems of Work, permit-to-work systems, risk management, and high-risk maintenance activities.
- Experience managing subcontractors, service partners, and specialist vendors.
- Strong working knowledge of Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and work order management processes.
- Ability to interpret technical documentation, engineering drawings, procedures, and statutory guidance.
- Excellent leadership, communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
Desirable Experience
- Experience within healthcare, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, laboratories, or other critical facilities environments.
- Knowledge of specialist clinical ventilation systems, decontamination facilities, clean environments, steam generation systems, and medical gases.
- Experience implementing engineering best practice within mission-critical environments.
- Working towards a Bachelor\'s or Master\'s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Willingness to undertake Authorised Engineer responsibilities for mechanical systems.
