Job Title: Technical SEO Specialist

Location: Remote

Type: Full-time

Reports to: Head of SEO

Salary £30-35k

About the Role

A leading, boutique agency are seeking a Technical SEO Specialist to join their team and take ownership of technical site performance across a diverse client portfolio. You’ll be responsible for delivering detailed technical SEO audits, communicating findings clearly, and ensuring recommendations are actioned - either hands-on or by collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.

Reporting to the Head of SEO you'll bring a wealth of skills within this dynamic discipline. As a specialist in this area you'll be keenly aware of latest trends and developments and enjoy communicating these to your team and clients. This position offers fantastic flexibility within a friendly, high performing team of experts who are passionate about delivering excellent work to their long-standing client base.

This is a key delivery role that blends deep technical knowledge with strong communication and problem-solving skills. You’ll work closely with our Head of SEO, SEO strategists, developers, and content teams to ensure our clients’ websites are technically optimised for organic search and future-ready for evolving algorithmic expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth technical SEO audits across client websites, identifying performance issues, crawlability barriers, indexation problems, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Present audit findings and recommendations in a structured and client-friendly format.
  • Prioritise and implement fixes directly where feasible (e.g., redirects, metadata updates, robots.txt, sitemaps, internal linking adjustments).
  • Liaise with developers, content teams, and third-party platforms to ensure more complex or development-heavy recommendations are implemented correctly.
  • Monitor and report on key technical SEO KPIs (e.g., Core Web Vitals, crawl stats, index coverage, page speed, mobile usability).
  • Use tools like Screaming Frog, Google Search Console, Google Analytics, and SEMrush/Ahrefs to diagnose and track issues.
  • Stay up to date with algorithm updates, emerging best practices, and advancements in technical SEO.

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in technical SEO, either in-house or agency-side.
  • Strong knowledge of website architecture, SEO best practices, and core HTML/CSS fundamentals.
  • Proficient with industry-standard SEO tools such as Screaming Frog, Ahrefs, SEMrush, and Google Search Console.
  • Comfortable making basic front-end changes or advising developers on more complex technical implementations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Highly organised and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage and prioritise multiple client projects simultaneously.
  • Confident working in fast-paced environments and under pressure, maintaining focus on high-impact tasks.
  • Able to independently manage workload while coordinating priorities proactively with the wider team.
  • Skilled in collaborating with internal teams and clients to brief in technical work, validate implementations, and ensure alignment with strategy.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, both internally and externally.
  • Proactive approach to technical SEO, with a clear understanding of what drives performance and delivers value for clients.

Desirable (but not essential)

  • Experience with CMS platforms like WordPress, Shopify, Magento, or Webflow.
  • Understanding of international SEO and hreflang implementation.
  • Basic knowledge of server-side elements such as hosting, CDN usage, and crawl budgets.
