Overview:

Our client provides industrial machinery installation, removal, relocation and mechanical maintenance services to customers in a wide range of industries. Operating primarily in the Southeast but also working regularly throughout the rest of the UK, they take pride in providing a first-class service for all their customers, whether for a single machine movement or full multi-disciplined project. Each job is different and has its own unique challenges, which keeps their work interesting and varied.

Their primary interest is in the UK manufacturing sector; however, they also work with plant engineering companies (handling boilers, air-handling units, process skids, etc.) and recycling companies.

They are a small, but highly experienced, close-knit team, looking for a Technical Sales Manager / Engineer to join them in driving future growth.

The person our client is looking for should be able to add quality to their team; they will be able to work well on their own initiative, as well as part of the team in a growing business and be flexible to work with the company as required.

In return, they will benefit from a flexible and supportive employer and receive benefits as follows:

  • Salary: £35,000 - £45,000 (negotiable dependent on experience).
  • Training and refreshers applicable to the role.
  • Contributory Pension Scheme.
  • 28 Days Annual Holiday (including Bank Holidays).

This is a great opportunity to grow within an already successful and growing business, offering career development opportunities for the right person.

Hours of Work:

  • Generally, 8am - 5pm, Monday to Friday; however, flexibility will be required.

Job Location:

Based out of our client’s Medway depot, travelling to customer sites throughout the UK (occasionally further afield).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend enquiry meetings and carry out technical site surveys for the removal, installation or relocation of a wide range of industrial machinery, plant and equipment.
  • Prepare programs, detailed costings and professional quotations for enquiries.
  • Ensure the correct resources are identified for the job – labour, plant, equipment and materials.
  • Negotiate to successfully win quoted work, whilst minimising company risk.
  • Prepare method statements, risk assessments, lift plans, etc.
  • Liaise with Operations Manager and Site Foreman on the requirements for secured work and maintain a high-level overview to ensure the job progresses to plan and budget.
  • Capture and agree any variations with the customer to keep budgets on track.
  • Debrief with the team on job completion to capture and communicate lessons learned.
  • Report to management on KPI’s.
  • Assist management with other tasks as the business needs.

Key Individual Attributes:

  • Strong mechanical engineering knowledge.
  • Be organized, adaptable and flexible in your approach to work.
  • Good working knowledge of Health and Safety on construction/manufacturing/industrial sites.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills (at all levels).
  • Ability to maintain a professional attitude at all times, even under pressure.
  • Proven sales record, ideally with experience in a wide range of industrial lifting, mechanical handling operations and industrial machinery installations.
  • Strong Project Management skills.
  • Ability to build new customer relationships and improve existing relationships.
  • A can-do attitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent time keeping and attendance.
  • Strong IT skills (office packages, CAD/Crane plan packages).
  • Be an effective contributor to the team and business.

Other requirements:

  • Appointed Person qualification for lifting operations (training can be provided for the right candidate).
  • Ensure company rules, procedures and standards are adhered to, in addition to any of the site-specific rules imposed by their customers.
  • Able to read and interpret technical engineering drawings.
  • You will be based on their Medway depot but expected to travel to their customers’ place of business, sometimes needing to stay out overnight.
  • Hold a full UK driving licence.

They would be keen to receive applications from candidates who hold the following skills/experience:

  • A Project Engineering background in a large manufacturing company.
  • Technical Sales Manager / Contract Manager currently working in the industrial relocation/installation industry.
  • Previous experience of working in large projects relating to machinery installations and relocations.
