Technical Sales Manager (Food Ingredients)

Home based, UK

Salary £52,000 - £64,000 pa + Bonus

An ingredients manufacturing business is seeking to appoint a Technical Sales / Business Development Manager in what is a new role, created due to the ongoing success of the business in attracting and retaining a quality portfolio of customers.

The Role

  1. Consultative sales of Ingredients to Food Manufacturing customers within: Chilled Foods, Meats, Seafood.
  2. Acting like a Technical Consultant by providing Technical advice and solutions, rather than just selling a commodity.
  3. Work closely with the NPD teams on customer sites, being used as a source of knowledge around product applications and technical capabilities of products.
  4. Work on 80% existing Accounts and 20% New business.
  5. Focus on nurturing Accounts, building relationships, and becoming a trusted source of information to customers, offering solutions that are commercially sound and credible.
  6. Create and maintain an up-to-date CRM system and project pipeline.
  7. Over the course of a year, it is likely the Business Development Manager will spend 50% of their time out visiting customers and 50% working from home.

Activities
  1. Achieve annual target.
  2. Prospect account targeting and appointment setting.
  3. Extensive planning and comprehensive coverage within the territory (mainland UK and occasionally Ireland).
  4. Agree on and arrange trials, almost acting as an extension of a customers' NPD team.
  5. Create professional and technically accurate proposals.
  6. Work in partnership with customers to leverage success for all parties.

The Person
  1. Extensive understanding of how Food is Manufactured, such as Chilled Foods, Seafood, Meats, Poultry.
  2. Tenacious, energetic and positive style/outlook with history of achieving sales goals.
  3. May already work for a company selling Ingredients to the Food Manufacturing sector.
  4. May not have sales experience but possess technical understanding of Food Production/Development and want to transition into a Sales role.
  5. Credible in front of the customer, comfortable having technical conversations with Food Industry professionals.
  6. Apply a consultative solutions-based sales approach.
  7. Can be based anywhere in the UK, within reason.

Salary £52,000 - £64,000 pa + Bonus (OTE £57k - £72k pa)
