Job summary

A leading technical solutions provider is looking for an Application Engineer in Scotland. The ideal candidate will support the sales team, provide technical assistance, and enhance customer relationships. A background in Aerospace, Oil & Gas, or Automotive industries is preferred, along with strong problem-solving skills and knowledge of metal cutting processes. Training will be provided. This role includes occasional overnight travel.

Job description

An opportunity has arisen for an Application Engineer to join PCS powered by Rubix. The ideal candidate will be responsible for supporting the current sales team within a technical application engineer role. The geographical area required being Scotland West & Central and additionally Northeast England. Knowledge of the Aerospace, Oil & Gas, and Automotive industries and their relevant components and materials is vital. A good knowledge of cutting tools and programming strategies is also required; however, training will be provided on products supplied to PCS by various suppliers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support sales team to give technical assistance within End User Companies
  • Report to sales team & sales manager on progress of technical projects
  • Provide customers with technical reports and cost-saving opportunities
  • Work on own initiative to generate new opportunities
  • Be part of a team that can respond to the requirements of customers
  • Provide product training to customers
  • The role will also require short periods working away from base with overnight stays

Main Tasks and Deliverables:

  • Work with the external sales team and local management on opportunities within your geographical area or territory
  • Develop good working relationships with relevant stakeholders in both new and existing customers
  • Work with existing and new customers to sell cutting & machining products and solutions
  • Develop a pipeline of new business opportunities to meet and exceed customer requirements
  • Collaborate with Rubix application engineers, other Rubix businesses, and manufacturers to provide technical support
  • Be accountable for your territory, retain existing customers, negotiate contracts, and drive profitable sales growth
  • Provide customers with measurable cost savings by reducing machining times, increasing tool life, and improving productivity
  • Recommend appropriate solutions, such as vending & managed inventory solutions
  • Work towards established KPIs and sales targets set by the business and your Line Manager

Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in the industry sector is preferred, but candidates from machining or production environments interested in moving into an application role will be considered
  • Technically proficient with extensive knowledge of metal cutting and machining processes
  • Resourceful with strong problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of CADCAM is beneficial
