Technical Sales – Application Engineer | Great Barr, Birmingham | Full Time | £33,500 per annum

Our client was established in 1870 and has a long standing, widely regarded reputation in the manufacture of power transmission components. Based at their factory in Great Barr, Birmingham, the company has an annual turnover of £5m, long-serving staff of 60, and a global customer base. With this strong foundation, the business is now focused on growth and development.

They are currently seeking a Technical Sales – Application Engineer to join their Sales department. In this role, you will handle incoming technical sales enquiries from customers, build close relationships with them in dealing with technical sales enquiries, produce accurate and competitive quotes and provide solutions to meet their needs and applications.

Are you the right person for the job?

  • HND or BTEC in mechanical engineering or a related field
  • Experience in an engineering technical sales environment
  • Strong engineering knowledge, including selections, drawings, and practices
  • Ability to propose technical solutions tailored to customer applications
  • Familiarity with bespoke computer systems and MS Office (Excel & Outlook)
  • Understanding of power transmission components and relevant sector knowledge
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels
  • Strong problem-solving ability and technical selection skills
  • Professional and courteous manner with customers, suppliers, and colleagues
  • Flexible and reliable with a strong work ethic
  • Experience with Zoho software is a plus

What will your role look like?

  • Handle incoming technical sales enquiries via and email
  • Build and maintain close customer relationships by providing expert technical advice
  • Produce accurate and competitive quotes based on customer needs and applications
  • Ensure all enquiries/quotes are entered onto the computer system, followed up and analysed daily
  • Liaise with internal teams (sales, technical, production) and key suppliers
  • Provide technical solutions and information about stocks, availability, and pricing
  • Proactively progress customer orders and communicate any changes or delays
  • Make occasional site visits to customers for technical support and product selection
  • Communicate market and competitor activity insights
  • Work within the company's sales and quality procedures, policies, and strategies
