Job Description:

Grand Central (GC) is an open-access train operator linking the North East and West Yorkshire with London. We provide the smaller communities on the East Coast Main Line with direct access to London, at affordable prices. GC may be a small operator in the railway industry, but we have a big impact. We are part of Arriva Rail Services which is formed of Grand Central Rail, Arriva TrainCare and Arriva Road Transport Services (ARTS) and we work closely with Arriva Train Operating Companies.

We have an exciting position become available for Technical Riding Inspectors to join the business to provide a rapid response to faults and failures on all Grand Central train routes in order to reduce delay and avoid cancellations. You will specifically provide on-train technical support during East Coast Digital Programme (ECDP) System of Systems testing (commencing August 2024), on the Operational Migration Overlay (OMO) stretch between Welwyn and Hitchin.

Contract; Fixed term contract for 18- 24 months, based out of London Kings Cross Station. The position will include rostered first line on call requirements

What will this role of Technical Riding Inspector entail?

Involvement in ECDP ETCS testing (static and dynamic)

Input, manage and resolve ETCS faults, liaising with Alstom and the ECDP ETCS fleet engineer

Establish a safe method of working in accordance with approved safety procedures before undertaking any work on rail vehicles.

Respond to in service faults and failures as and when requested by operations or maintenance control.

Meet arrivals at stations on the line of route and liaise with train crew to obtain details of any in service faults.

Carry out pre and post maintenance inspections on vehicles in service.

Carry out health checks on vehicles in service.

Ride units in service in order to diagnose and repair faults.

Record completed work in the Nexala E2M maintenance management system.

Interrogate vehicle maintenance history to identify recurring faults and rouge units etc.

Investigate service affecting failure to determine root cause.

Collate technical information and provide reports to the fleet team as required.

Liaise with the maintenance depots and provide action lists for priority defect rectification.

Act as first line on-call under a rostered arrangement

What will I need to be considered for this Technical Riding Inspector role?

Minimum Level 4 Qualification or above in Engineering

Minimum of 5 years experience in a train maintenance role, or a role maintaining similar assets

Familiar with Office based IT systems

Good written and verbal communications

Desirable Qualifications:

ETCS experience

Understanding of DRACAS/OKMS

Experience in the maintenance and fault finding on Class 180 DMUs.

Experience of diagnosis and rectification of faults on rail vehicles in service.

Hold a valid Personal Track Safety certificate.
