Experience in managing projects within marine or engineering contexts is a plus. The position is Chelmsford-based Monday to Thursday, with remote work on Fridays.

Job description

We are currently seeking an experienced Technical Project Manager to join our team on a 6–9 month fixed-term contract. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and overseeing multiple projects within our IT department, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with business objectives. Ideal candidates will possess a strong understanding of IT project management methodologies, excellent stakeholder management skills, and the ability to drive projects forward in a fast-paced environment.

As part of continuing to change or ongoing transformation, we are searching for a highly qualified project manager to support us, with an initial focus on the IT change programme. The ideal candidate will have experience in IT, preferably within marine or engineering sectors, along with strong project management skills in developing and overseeing fast-evolving work plans. The project manager will also be responsible for preparing and presenting regular updates to relevant management channels, ensuring that our challenges are identified and effectively addressed.

Key Deliverables:

  • Build and develop project plans to ensure maximum performance, by providing purpose, direction, and motivation
  • Lead projects from requirements definition through deployment, identifying schedules, scopes, budget estimations, and implementation plans, including risk mitigation
  • Coordinate internal and external resources to ensure that projects adhere to scope, schedule, and budget
  • Analyse project status and, when necessary, revise the scope, schedule, or budget to ensure that project requirements can be met
  • Establish and maintain relationships with relevant client stakeholders, providing day-to-day contact on project status and changes and ensuing operation within agreed authority limits
  • Establish and maintain processes for managing scope during the project lifecycle, setting quality and performance standards and assessing risks
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with third-party resources, including vendors and researchers
  • Assign and monitor resources to ensure project efficiency and maximise deliverables
  • Report project outcomes and/or risks to the appropriate management channels and escalate issues, as necessary, according to project work plan

Qualifications / Skills and Experience

  • Extensive client facing experience and communications skills
  • Ability to work intuitively, alone, remotely or as part of a team in diverse environments
  • Strong organisation skills and ability to prioritise, plan and multitask work assignments
  • Task ownership and ability to work within deadlines, timelines and budgets
  • Understanding of project management principles and ability to work within a project team
  • Experience working on projects, taking requirements, generating designs, and implementing a final solution
  • Proactive approach to discovering use cases and implementing Office365 & Power Platform solutions
  • Proactive approach to learning, retaining up to date PM and IT skills and learning new skills as the business requires
  • Four or more years of project management experience
  • Experience in developing project plans technologies and software platforms for maximum usability
  • Strong attention to deadlines and budgetary guidelines
  • Proven success working with all levels of management
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills

Ideal:

  • Professional certification such as PMP or PRINCE2
  • Experience in developing platforms for internal processes
  • Experience in coaching team members to strengthen their abilities and skill sets

This role is Chelmsford site based Monday - Thursday, with Friday working from home.
