Salary: £50,000-£70,000 + Car Allowance (DOE)

I am looking for a Technical Project Manager to join a leading supplier of packaging products. The plastics team specialises in closures for products such as milk cartons/bottles, sports drinks, protein supplements, etc. This team works on all product offerings outside of North America. Their clients are major brands worldwide, and your home likely has several of their caps/packaging solutions already!

The team you join would be around 6 members, including project engineers, product designers, and an apprentice. The right candidate will ideally take ownership of this team and lead the coordination between the product and industrial teams. They are a tight-knit team with a culture of open communication. You will report directly to the European Technical Director of Plastics.

Responsibilities:
  1. Responsible for the overall coordination, implementation, execution, control, and completion of specific projects, ensuring alignment with company strategy, commitments, and goals, supporting project leaders and operations.
  2. Recognize risks that could impact the likelihood of success and ensure they are measured and addressed throughout the project lifecycle.
  3. Create and deliver project work plans, revising them as needs change.
  4. Develop and maintain plans and schedules for each project stage.
  5. Agree with project leaders on timescales, costs, and resources needed, escalating roadblocks to the director of product development.
  6. Promote a policy of open communication.
  7. Manage day-to-day operational aspects of projects.
  8. Ensure each stage progresses on time, within budget, and meets quality standards.
  9. Identify appropriate equipment to meet volume needs and economics.
  10. Estimate tooling and equipment needs, negotiating with contractors and suppliers.
  11. Provide supply specifications and agreements to ensure security and compliance with project needs, in coordination with the project team and the Technical Manager-Plastics.
  12. Provide tool estimates, cycle times, and material specifications for assessments.
  13. Develop a comprehensive supplier framework, both local and outsourced.
  14. Create and manage project timelines using tools like SmartSheet and Microsoft Project.
  15. Work closely with stakeholders to ensure effective project implementation.
  16. Debug products and components to maximize sales potential.
  17. Produce weekly update reports covering project progress, risks, and roadblocks.
  18. Ensure project documentation is complete, current, and properly stored.
Essentials:
  • Understanding of taking a product closure from design to production and large-scale manufacturing within plastics/closure contexts.
  • Hands-on support on the shop floor as needed.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools like SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
  • Mentoring junior and apprentice team members.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset for growth and market expansion.
  • Self-driven, proactive attitude.
  • Experience managing contractors, customers, and suppliers externally.
  • Plastic/mould design expertise (ideal).
